Re: Weather = rain
Poem was written by the Australian bush poet John O'Brien and published in 1921. It goes on and describes the floods that followed the drought and then the bushfire danger resulting from the floods.
I can still remember my grade 4 teacher (about 50 years ago) reading it to us.
No rain yet and nothing much predicted for the next week.

Re: Weather = rain
60mm since yesterday morning!!!!
Yahoo!!!!!!
Unfortunately we have lost a couple of small roses (early HTs) in the heat but have potted up cuttings to replces them though not the same rose.
Also when I was walking around this morning in the rain I noticed that our old Teasing Georgia (one of only two DAs left in the garden) looks to have surcumed to the sun.

Re: Weather = rain
Sitting on the verandah bending a few bananas listening to the rain as we speak!
Our tally since it started on Thursday is 142mm. Been good steady rain with a few breaks. Not much runoff yet (our dam has prbably only gone up 200mm) as the heavy rain has not gotten this far south yet.
I dug up a bit of one of the gardens this morning when it was not raining and the rain has penetrated about 100mm into pretty hard ground. Other areas it has gone way down so its been a good drop.

Re: Weather = rain
It's pouring here at present. At least (our gauge overflows at 140mm and it was overflowing this morning) 260mm since 5pm yesterday. Our dam is overflowing. It went up 2 metres over night.
We lost power overnight along with 30000 other homes and its not expected to be back on unto tomorrow.
Still we are not as bad off as others

This was from the previous lot of weather we had, how did you fare this time Betsy and others. We were promised 100% of 20 to mL yesterday and received 13mL. The photo's below are from this morning, sunrise towards the East and one now(7.30am) in a Westerly direction.roseman wrote:Betsy are you getting any of this rain coming from Qld.

The second shot is towards a house up the paddock from us. One of the daughters of the house got married there yesterday at 3pm, the arrangement was for a carriage with her in it to arrive in, at 2.30pm the rain came, other options came into play so all was good, at 3.20pm it stopped, so after the ceremony the carriage arrived to take the shots of her arriving for posterity. The wedding was to be in the gardens of the house, another option was played, the ceremony was carried out in the hay shed with church pews to make it an even more beautiful day for her.

Re: Weather = rain
The Hunter is awash, roseman. Vertical rain, horizontal rain, 45o angle rain, big drops, little droplets, - yooo wannit, we goddit.
There is a sunny interlude at the momen, but the Weatherzone radar tells me it's just a short break Once proudly borne rose canes have flopped everywhere , and the drought-loving eremophila nivea is angrily stabbing at the no-rain clause in her sodden contract. Toughen up, I tell her, this wet stuff is like golllddd, darlin'

Wet. Wet. Wet.
I think autumn has arrived. 43.5mm in the last 3-4hrs. And by the look of the radar ... yikes, we could get another 50mm tonight..!
Very happy garden.
Unhappy sheepies.

Re: Weather = rain
Brisbane. Apparently we've had around 175mm according to the rader. Yesterday and today are the only days that hasn't rained, though I think it will do so today by the looks of it. Roses are loving it, the cat isn't. Wish I could package and send it to those who need it
