Spray with the water hose, very easy to knock off that way.

FAR too many and they just crawl back up the stems, been doing that while it was raining, NO the sprayer will come out either today or tomorrow Just doing a quick weed and tidy and picking off as much black spot as I can before my fingers bleed and then spay and all done for a month or so till the big prune

Re: Weather = rain
I have mainly used rogor in the past but have two bottles of the Yates rose product, Rose Shield, I shall be using that till it runs out which at the rate I spray will be quite a few years, I rarely spray unless I am desperate and the infestation is beyond my organic ways

Re: Weather = rain
I only use rogor if the lady birds or the little silver eye birds can't keep up, when I do its a concentration of 1/2 ml / lt. Aphids are pretty easy to knock off, it things like spider mite which is the real problem.

Re: Weather = rain
yes my poor azaleas get attacked by RSM
Lady birds are few and far between here however I get loads of mantis so that is why I hate spraying

Re: Weather = rain
Thankfully my predator population seems to be bigger than the aphid population at the moment. Not sure if the ladybirds and the wrens have a standing agreement or all out competition.
Either way - it's FINE BY ME !!!

There is always one thing or another in the garden that pisses you off

TE azaleas are attacked by Lace wing which looks similar to RSM, you have to spray over a 2 wk cycle which will clean them up, but they will always come back so you have to keep an eye out

Re: Weather = rain
I have given up on them, they drop their leaves and I clean up and bin and then they come back good as new I only have a few left now, some that where getting tatty have recently been dug out when I overhauled the entire back garden, over 15 cubic metres removed Including 10 or more old roses which wont be replaced

Re: Weather = rain
Half your luck.
We usually have a reasonable amount of rain by this time of year but so far we have had very little since July. We had a bit of a shower this morning but only a couple of mm at most. What makes it worse is that I could see and hear the rain pouring on the other side of the valley (less than 1km away) and yet we missed most of it.

I have been watching it going around us, Nambour, for the last few weeks, it is almost heartbreaking! Hope by the time I get back from my holiday some decent rain has decided to fall here on the Sunny Coast!

Re: Weather = rain
Yesterday morning I had a look at the long range weather for the next couple of weeks. The cyclone near New Caledonia was predicted to turn back towards us and cross the coast just north of here and deliver a lot of rain.
By last night the prediction had changed and the rain has headed for Tahiti.

Re: Weather = rain
"We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan, In accents most forlorn, Outside the church, ere Mass began, One frosty Sunday morn.
The congregation stood about, Coat-collars to the ears, And talked of stock, and crops, and drought, As it had done for years.
"It's lookin' crook," said Daniel Croke; "Bedad, it's cruke, me lad, For never since the banks went broke Has seasons been so bad."
"It's dry, all right," said young O'Neil, With which astute remark He squatted down upon his heel And chewed a piece of bark.
And so around the chorus ran "It's keepin' dry, no doubt." "We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan, "Before the year is out.

Re: Weather = rain
LOL Gary!
Apart from two days of wet , it's been and is again dry as dust around here. Lots of BoM forecasts about possible this and possible that, but those little rain cloud icons on the Bureau's maps are just rain porn. We are rooned.
