Hello fellow rose enthusiasts!

I have 4 lovely rose bushes growing in a raised flower bed, they bloom regularly throughout the year, although once bloomed they only last for 2-3 days at most then the petals start to drop. I don't want to lose my flowers so soon, does anyone have any recommendations? I believe the soil to be well draining, although it’s sand based and not clay, it’s well mulched and they are watered deeply every 2 days during Perth, WA summer.

Thanks in advance for any your help you may have!!

From one Jonboyperth to another Jonboyperth welcome to the site..... your problem might be easier than what you think....... you have not named the type of roses that you have , but i think it is the type of rose that is causing the problem. Some roses when bloom will last for a long time and make great vase roses especially when combine with fragrance. I had a rose bush that would open in the morning and be fully blown by that night.... needless to say that bush didn't last long...... some bushes are like that, the blooms don't last long. It can boil down to trial and error as to the bushes that you get....... I am interested in what part of Perth(approx.) you are in and the name of the bushes

Hello Neptune (JonBoyPerth) !!
Thanks for the message back, much appreciated.
I’m in Bedford, close to Inglewood. Which sits on the top of a huge sand dune I’m told, not sure if this helps with diagnosis! But we’re quite elevated. The roses get full morning sun, but direct sunlight for perhaps only 4-5 hours a day, shaded in the afternoons. I’ve taken a couple of pics to see if your recognisee the name of the bushes, as I’m unsure.
Thanks so much again!

not sure on the varieties you have but it could do with the soil running out of vitamins for your bush.....go to Bunnings and get some rose marvel fertilizer and see if that helps..... otherwise it could be just the variety....... give them a slight prune all over on the 22nd March to have a nice bloom for Mothers Day

Good advice, yes I’ll do some pruning for winter, thanks!
I use the black marvel pellets every few weeks. Might try the old used coffee grounds / bannana skins - let me know if you’ve had any luck with this, or similar! Thanks again!
And what roses do you grow?
Thanks,
Jon

the prune is just a light prune so you have a full flush for mothers day.....your winter prune won't come along till July......apart from black marvel, cow manure and compost turned over in the soil will help the bushes a long way considering where you are located.....
I grow hybrid teas and floribundas for competitions....

I used to live in Mt Lawley opposite Perth College......
