versigny is a new one for me , bought it last year as bareroot, its been very slow , still a tiny rose, so I haven't made my mind up on it just yet , see how it goes this year , the fragrance so far is not too bad (hint of citrus and orange blossoms )

I have Versigny; bought it as a grafted container plant last year so its still pretty new. So far its seems pretty vigorous and manages to outgrow the BS it gets in spring. It was a non stop blooming machine until June but the heat seems to have knocked it around a bit this year. Its looking healthy enough, and still putting on a bit of growth, but not so many blooms.. only one tiny bud at the moment, after a long post spring rest. The flowers are gorgeous, usually fairly large and smell lovely (citrus and fruity like Jordan says). On  mine so far growth is kinda shrubby ad twiggy, and it tends to flower in clusters, so the canes sometimes get dragged down a bit.

How are your liking Best Friend? I really love mine...bright strong flowers, lots of blooms and new shoots, nice perfume, healthy as a horse.

Aotearoa is one of the few roses with both excellent exhibition form and magnificent fragrance. Bred by Sam McGredy 1V Aotearoa is a Maori word meaning "land of the long white cloud." Sail Away is a white sport of Aotearoa discovered in Sam's garden.

love my best friend rose , healthy and the colour is superb so is its health . it is the rose in memory of my beloved dog

Yes mine was planted in memory of Buster, my devoted companion for many years. Appropriate that Best Friend is a rose that gives so much for our beloved pets that gave us so much. .... sniff

Thank you for posting Dan, I've missed seeing your beauties.
My first bloom came from Darcy Bussell. It's such an exciting time waiting for our roses to pop open. There's a real sense of expectation in their air.

thanks silky.. I haven't had much time for my roses this season to be honest , way too busy with work and few issues in my personal life and battle with the possums continues .. they are chewing most of my roses at the back so whatever new growth is developing its gone

she is three years old and just beautiful rose . the perfume is very pleasing

Sue, Louise Odier, came to our garden this Winter and is budding up well at present. It came with recommendations from Dan and seeing it in it's full growing habit in England last year.

Dan if I remember your posts from last year, you mentioned it's good fragrance I think ?

Hi David , yeah it  has a beautiful fragrance , fruity  and sometimes more citrus
this year it is very strong compare to the last few years , carrying more blooms so I guess it takes about three years to establish

Dan have you tried sprinkling pepper on the roses that are getting eaten by the possums? You have to keep reapplying liberally, especially after rain, but it does work. It worked for me last year and I just persevered until I think they gave up. I'll wait and see if they venture back to that spot this year but so far so good, even with all the young growth tantalisingly within reach of the fence. And there are LOTS of possums here! Good luck with it. I know it's heartbreaking to see.

Silky, this is going to sound sooo stupid BUT ...... do you use ground pepper or cracked please? An NO Neptune, I'm not quite cracked today before yo ask!! LOL
I had trouble last season, when I first moved in here and didn't know what the problem was. Neighbours soon put me right!

ive just got them some fruit , hopefully they will leave my roses alone .. I know they are protected but they are a pain in the backside

I'm with you Dan! Feel like shooting them! Had a look today at my new Clematis, which is on the same fence and they've had a go at the top of that too!

Hi Sue, not a dumb question at all. Use black ground pepper (easily visible on the leaves), you know the shaker containers in the supermarket (Saxa I think). Shake some on the young growth/flower buds. No harm to the plants.
I actually got the tip from someone here a year or so ago, and it does work. Seems possums are sensitive to smell as well as taste. Little blighters.
