Re: FEW MORE ROSES IN SPRING
Love them Jordan. My young Darcy Bussell has lots of buds so I hope they look this good when they open. It seems to be a nicely shaped rose too, judging by its growth so far.

Re: FEW MORE ROSES IN SPRING
I have a couple of roses that are just Blooming Lovely at the moment.
I have 12 Diamant's growing as a border and they are all in full bloom. I am so happy with this rose it is so clean & healthy, only thing is it grows too well and I have to keep it in check.
Gloire Lyonnaise has also proven to be a winner in my garden. Though this is the first year growing here so I guess time will tell.

Re: FEW MORE ROSES IN SPRING
Sue mine is still very young but it's showing strong healthy growth at the moment and has a lot of buds for its size. Shapely in growth, no issues at this stage. I have it next to Pierre de Ronsard on one side and Jubilee Celebration and Abraham Darby on the other. Hoping the colours and growth all look good together.

Re: FEW MORE ROSES IN SPRING
I have mine in a spot between a dwarf nectarine and 'Gremlin'. I was going to shift her this last winter because 'Gremlin' is taking OVER but I didn't quite get it done. Ooops.
Mine is still a young plant so I'm reserving judgement. Although it seems okay at this point.

All, can I ask a question. How far apart do you REALLY plant your roses... I would be interested to know as I plant pretty close and don't have any problems....

If I can access both sides of a bush, then I plant them 700mm centres apart. If it is a deep rose bed and I need to walk into the garden bed to access the back roses, then 800- 900mm centres apart. This is with HT's because of there size and getting scratched is minimalised. Larger bushes need more space and smaller bushes need a bit less

Re: FEW MORE ROSES IN SPRING
Thank You John for being so honest as everyone I have asked elsewhere says 1.2mtr and that is just ridiculous as I would have but a few roses in my garden then & I want MORE, MORE, MORE.....

Re: FEW MORE ROSES IN SPRING
I was talking to a person from Dawsons who works on rose growing farm to sell to florists and they plant there roses 18" apart, so it enables the canes to reach for the sky...hence long stem roses.......then again I went and saw where they grow roses hydro and in one foam container that measured approx. 1m x 500mm, they had a dozen plus rose bush in each container....Dimity Cottage wrote:Thank You John for being so honest as everyone I have asked elsewhere says 1.2mtr and that is just ridiculous as I would have but a few roses in my garden then & I want MORE, MORE, MORE.....

Re: FEW MORE ROSES IN SPRING
So interesting, Neptune. Thank you for the info. Growing roses in pots with potting mix is essentially soil-less cultivation. I've always wanted to take the notion one step further into hydro rose growing. For me, as a rose grower for the vase, that pack-em'-in scenario is just so appealing.

Re: FEW MORE ROSES IN SPRING
Thanks so much John, Very interesting info. Especially the concept of the long stem Roses. I am a bushy Rose Bush person myself but there are those who pick for the house and want long stems.
