Re: Eyes For You
It's amazing Maree. The flowers don't last all that long, a few days. But the scent is so spicey and strong. I don't have another smelling rose like it.

Re: Eyes For You
this lovely rose grows very well here in friuli, a very cold and wet place in italy but it has been very succesful in tuscany where the weather can be very dry and warm in summer (depending on which part of tuscany for sure) . the rosa berberifolia or persica influence as with all the harkness s previous persica hybrids are perfect for dry and very warm climates

Re: Eyes For You
Rosy, Eyes for You is on my "Possibles" list, so am interested in what you found with yours over time. I know your roses have been severely bashed around at the moment, but how did you find its growth, perfume, flower production and health?
Also, I know you bought a magnolia Fairy earlier, and I'm toying with creating a hedge of these along the back fence. I hope yours is still alive! How did you find you went with it?

Re: Eyes For You
It's amazing Silky! One of my potted ones that has survived the weather. It is bushy and green and still producing flowers! I have it in a fairly large pot so it is watered daily. I have to say in the heat we have here the purple doesn't hold up as well as I would like, but it stays a dark pink when the pot is under our shadecloth area. I am going to buy another to see how well it does in the ground!
Magnolia is doing ok, I think it gets too much sun so hasn't flowered yet, not sure what to do to help it along, my magnolias and camellias just do not grow at all. I feel like they have grown about 2cm in a year!

Re: Eyes For You
Thanks Rosy, good to know your EfY survived and is still going strong. Sounds like a tough rose, despite its delicate flowers. I think the weather conditions down here in Melbourne might suit it, although this latest hot spell has been trying, to say the least. I might try it in a pot then.
Hope your magnolia comes good Rosy. It is a beautiful thing, I can only imagine it in full bloom.

Re: Eyes For You
Let me know how you go Silky It's a hardy plant. And no aphids, black spot, or even caterpillars (unlike the rest!). We have even had problems with leaf cutter bees. They are grey and destroyed 2 of my plants! They will live but the leaves are cut to shreds .. But they never touched IFY

Re: Eyes For You
That's interesting Rosy. Wonder what EFY has that makes it unattractive to insect pests, maybe something in its genetic makeup? Another plus anyway.

Re: Eyes For You
I have only ever seen a couple of aphids on it, squashed them and they have never returned. Compared to some of the other roses that have been ruined by aphids I was very impressed I was always curious to know a bit about it to understand why it is so hardy but haven't had much time to look it up.

Re: Eyes For You
Is it going into a pot or into the garden Rosy? I'm tossing up whether to get an EFY, can't make up my mind. Wonder how it would go in a nice big pot?

Re: Eyes For You
Rosy, EFY is supposed to have a strong, unusual scent. Can you detect much fragrance? Does it waft at all?

Re: Eyes For You
Sure can, it smells just like cinnamon! Very spicy is the best way I can describe it. The flowers do not last too long in summer here, the purple fades almost to white but the scent is incredible. That's why I bought a second one because I was hoping in the ground in a little shade, it may be a bigger plant and have even more flowers So if the flowers being a little delicate is a problem I wouldn't recommend it, but I would have 10 of them if I could haha!
Remember to remind me tomorrow silky!

I would think it should like filtered sun/shade for the colour to stay with it,
Rosy where is your located

Mines under shade cloth now and it does really well. The colour still fades a little but never completely.
