'Eyes For You' Brindabella's new rose
I haven't been on as often lately as I would have liked, please forgive me if this question has already been asked! I saw the previews and write-ups on this stunning new rose, and contacted Brindabella Roses about her, but haven't managed to get her into my garden yet. I was just wondering if any of you guys has managed to get hold of this rose yet, and your impressions if you have seen it eye to...leaf?
I have only seen photographs but it looks and sounds absolutely exquisite! (and hardy as well- two of my favourite technical rose terms.. heh heh)

Re: 'Eyes For You' Brindabella's new rose
Hello Lildeb - there was a thread last week "Hulthemia Hybrid launched", in which several of us reported seeing publicity for Eyes for You - but no one seemed to have found it on sale yet. Does look great in the pictures though, doesn't it?

Re: 'Eyes For You' Brindabella's new rose
I contacted Brindabella Roses direct, they said you can buy it through their website, and they will organise transport to eastern states too :>
The pictures sent me into raptures, reminded me of a poppy crossed with a peony rose...

Wendy, we/us like it, what are your thoughts about the general public, unless Treloars market it bigtime I think it will just be a rose to the public

Re: 'Eyes For You' Brindabella's new rose
I think because it is so different, incredibly striking IMO, it will stand out among the new season's roses... don't mind, as long as I can get MY paws on it..
Being a "Brindabella" with all the heat tolerant, disease resistance etc, will mean it would be suitable for EVERYONE, not just mad-keen rose growers, giving it greater appeal. I usually head toward the old-fashioned heritage roses, but I swear, I got whiplash trying to get a closer look at the pic I saw.. heehee..

And don't the pics on that link show it off, all those 'eyes' covering the bush... mmmmm...
Re: 'Eyes For You' Brindabella's new rose
Deb, have a look at this site below. It is a fellow over in America that has gone further with it. The Hulthemia style of rose with the 'blotch' as it is called was started by 'Harkness Roses' I think and the breeder of this new one is continueing along those lines

Jordan, you could purchase roses that created this beauty and breed many new one's yourself. A lot of work has ben done but lots more to do, why not go for it.

Re: 'Eyes For You' Brindabella's new rose
I have just had a closer look at the cover of B.Byd. I don't usually buy magazines unless I have waiting time to fill in [which I did yesterday; and then it could equally be a cooking or fishing mag that I might buy]
The pretty little flower on the cover caught my eye , but I didn't open the bag because I started reading about a chicken and chorizo pie in my other book.
Even this morning I looked at the pic in passing and thought "gee that's a pretty little portulacca "! I have some growing here atm that have a coloured splot in the middle around the stamens .
Then reading this thread today and saw the reference to "the hulthemia hybrid" and then went and looked that thread up and saw the mention of B.B'yrd and went back and took my mag out of it's plakky bag and had a closer look .....
OMG , it's not a portulacca , IT'S A ROSE !!!
I WANT ONE but apparently so does the rest of Australia and a quick read through the article does not give me much hope that it is going to be available in W.A anytime soon.
