Re: Spring Roses
Great to see some flowers Like Margaret mine are still quite a way off... one or two scattered ones but nothing really to speak of yet. Keep 'em coming Gary
Re: Spring Roses
Very nice Val. Love Othello , sink your nose into it and float off on a cloud of rose scent.
I've almost given up taking pictures of red roses as they all want to turn out Peter Prankenfeld pink and even some of the orange shades go funny colours too.
Both the digital cameras that I use now are doing it [both Fuji's] and I don't know how to alter the settings .
Funny thing is that my original camera , the Fuji A350 captured the reds , from Papa Meilland to Prospero perfectly .
cheers. Rosalie

Re: Spring Roses
Oh I do know what you mean Rosalie! I usually have to fiddle with the photo until I get a close colour to the dark reds. They always end up looking unnatural though. If you take the pic in the right light it sometiimes works.
Re: Spring Roses
Am enjoying all these. My camera is busted and will takes weeks to fix.

Re: Spring Roses
Lovely thread Val. Enjoyed all your roses.
J150 is hard to capture the vibrant colour in a photo, isn't it?
Jude is one of my favs. Such a magnificent fragrance.
I tried to strike more of them last autumn, but I think I lost them all. sigh. you win some...........

Love Aoteroa Val , had that down in Donnybrook. It's a great cutting flower too .
JTO is nearly always the last rose to flower for me , it's still just covered in green buds.
Cheers. Rosalie

Re: Spring Roses
And Graham Thomas is one of the "great" roses. It's one of my best in the garden - and setting some promising hips right now.

Re: Spring Roses
dave graham thomas is good for breeding, had some good results using it, but whats really important is its seed germinates quite easily, used it quite a bit , with charles austin last year, the seedlings are growing strongly and flowering , cant wait untill after xmas when they get up to around 2.5 ft high and the canes can produce stronger flower buds

Re: Spring Roses
Yeah - Rustons is amazing, Shamous. Was there last year and met the King of Roses himself! David was out among the roses pruning.
Did you see the new Tea gardens? A wonderful collection in the making. Have you met Margaret yet? She is an amazing person I am longing to meet. She slogs away in the Tea section at Rustons - and has taken trailer loads of roses to Marysville to give to those who lost their gardens in the fires.
OZROZ they sound like great seedlings. Don't forget the photos:)
