Damo, you certainly have some of the more unusual roses. Where do you look for these?

G'day Bruce! Smile

The more unusual of my roses came from rose nurseries a few years ago, a couple of which have since shut down I think!?! Some roses I have just found during my travels.

My standard of "Nearly Wild" is from Yass, my "Blue For You" is from Bathurst & my "Smooth Ballerina" was bought in Sydney & all 3 constantly remind me of a great day in each place! That is just one reason I am thankful for my roses...there is a memory attached to each & every one of them I grow!!!

Thanks Karen! Smile

"Smooth Ballerina" is classed as a cluster-flowered/floribunda but it looks more hybrid-teaish to me! LOL
It has "Blue Moon" in its parentage & also "Roller Coaster" (the latter explains the clusters & the stripes I suppose).

"Paris 2000" has done brilliantly here. It's never a problem & it's just a cheerful type of rose. You know, the type that makes you wish all roses were like it!?! Nice growth habit, great health, eye-catching blooms! I have found the Delbard-bred roses to be up there with the best; most are easy care but still have that special something!!!

Hi Damo, thanks for your reply. I have found the Delbards very good too and I am planning to get more this Winter, and that is why I was asking about Paris 2000. So thankyou for the good report of it.
You should put your photo of Smooth Ballerina on Helpmefind as they don't have any of it at all and yours is a very nice photo of it. Where did you get your Smooth Ballerina from ?

I see a pattern forming Damian Wink Singles and semi double pinks/purples seem to be the flavour of the day there me thinks Laughing

Where did you get 'Ralph's Creeper' from????? I didn't even know this gem was in Australia (although on further exploration I see Adelaide Botanical Gardens and Morwell Centenary Rose Garden in Vic has them growing so I guess it must have been at some stage LOL). Strike a few and I'll buy half a dozen off you Thumbsup

Karen: I got my "Smooth Ballerina" at Narellan (I think LOL) but it was a good 5 years ago (at least!!!) & although I still see some "smooth" roses around I have not seen "Smooth Ballerina" at all! I'm sure some nursery must have it though. If I knew for sure it wasn't a protected variety I would get cuttings to you but I don't know about this!

I have put in an order for (10) Delbard roses this year. I want to use most in my breeding (as pollen parents) next season so I will make sure they all get a jump on growth with the very best conditions! Do you already have "Bordure Vive" & "Bordure Nacree" Karen? I am amazed by both roses health...

Hmmmm I just noticed that my post to Simon got bumped into oblivion maybe because it was posted at exactly the same time as the one from Abbi! LOL...

Take 2.

G'day Simon! You have read me well! Thumbsup Laughing

"Ralph's Creeper" came from "Rose Cottage Nursery" in SA in 2003 & I'm not sure if they are around anymore? They had some great roses...

My plant is only small atm (just potted it up recently to save it from that wallaby!) but if it grows enough you can expect some cuttings of it in with your others when they are sent!

I am letting it set OP hips atm & next season I am going to cross it with "Route 66" & "Peppermint Twist".

Damo, you can "give" Karen cuttings and not worry about "PBR" or "registered". There is no monetary exchange in this, Regards David.

Damon, I do have those roses and I have the bigger growing varieties they have, Guy Savoy, Grimaldi, Paul Cezanne , Grand Nord and the climber Nehema. Also I have Chartreuse de Parme, Chandon Rosier and Mitsouko which haven't grown as much. I lost some because of a dry year, also they have been moved once since.
I have found GreenEroses might be selling Smooth Ballerina and other Smooth roses. The Internet is a amazing thing ! Also I have a 2009 Hedgerow catalogue that has Smooth Angel and Smooth Lady.
I not into growing cuttings that much now, I know the disappointments as well as the successes of growing ownroots and getting them established. I would rather just buy the grafted roses now. I will grow certain cuttings in the future but I am having a break from it and the ones I do then will be well watered and cared for, kept in the shade house for a few years.

Hi David!

Thanks for that info! For some reason I thought anything that prevented the PBR holder from getting their cut was a "no no" so it's good to know this is not the case! Thumbsup

Karen, I had all the Delbards but lost a few during the drought. I will replace a couple of them but it's the newer varieties I am going to get this year! Some of them look really nice & unusual...

Glad you found some smooth roses and yes, the internet is an amazing thing (having said this I am thinking of getting it disconnected for a while though LOL).

I am hopeless at growing roses from cuttings; I think I water things too much & they seem to always rot! I am going to try to get it right though!!!

It is the case I don't think so! I'm afraid this DOES extend to gifting plants AND propagating material.

I'm glad you liked the colours Simon...I thought you would! Smile

I always look at my roses from every angle & I am often surprised at what I find! I get down low amongst them when weeding etc & I am often stunned by how a rose looks from underneath & backlit by sunlight or against a blue - or even grey - sky!
