Lorraine Lee

Here is one for you Simon.
We saw this rose blooming in the lower Derwent Valley at New Norfolk this morning. No mildew says the lady.
The plant is 15 years old.
The lady also told me about another plant growing at Austins Ferry (nor far from the Cadbury's factory), a suburb of Hobart that starts blooming each year in July.

Hi Billndee, that truely is a lovely rose, I love your close up photo of it. Your other photos of it are very impressive too, it certainly is a giant of a rose.

Billndee, now that you have shown these lovely pictures, it is now a must have rose for me. I have read that it is sutiable for our hot and humid climate. Thanks for the pictures.

Billndee, so pleased to see this rose growing so well and blooming in July.
It also blooms in Sydney's mild winters in July. Good to see a Tea rose doing so well in cooler Tassie.

It's supposed to be a sport of Lorraine Lee Bush but I think there is more variation. LLB does get some mildew here but the climber is very mildew free.

Alee, I recon this rose will be a real winner for you but size may be a problem.

Dave, that gracious old house sitting in 5 acres of garden and backing onto the Derwent River would be over 100 years old. It ia another one of Tassie's unsung treasures.

You know I bought the bush form of 'Lorraine Lee' on your recommendation Dee... well... I took this photo this afternoon. My little one has its first flower today. I have been impressed with its rate of growth even when it was still quite cold. It started growing almost as soon as it was planted in late winter. This flower has taken forever to open. So far I have not seen any disease on it. At this time of the year I get a lot of problems with blackspot (and possibly cercospora). I don't usually get problems with mildew until late summer and autumn when the days are warm and the nights are cool. I don't know what was wrong with the one at Woolmers though... it looked quite poor when we were there... and it was the climbing one too.

This is mine , she is about 5 years old now and still growing, love her no pruning required at this stage
