Thanks for that, Jordan, that was instant love when I opened this link, but if it’s not heat tolerant, it would be cruel to plant a LXIV here in Brisbane.
I’m quite happy with my AF, how’s BH’s fragrance?

I love it: the sunburned sun king. Maybe I should take it just for that. I’ll keep an eye on yours for a bit.

The colour is quite similar to Munstead Wood; do you have a MW, too?

Re: LOUIS XIV- WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE 2000- BLUEBERRY HILL- LORRAINE LEE
What a silly Q that was! What’s happening with your MW? I’m asking, because mine is still extremely slow. I’ve had some nice blooms, but the bush is an odd one out in my garden.

My MW is also very slow here. Last night the possums ate a cluster of 3 little buds. sigh. I will have to start putting out pepper again. They had left them alone for ages. One teeny bud left.

Re: LOUIS XIV- WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE 2000- BLUEBERRY HILL- LORRAINE LEE
Silky, what a shame for something like that to happen again, after your roses recovered from such a rude start this year. At least you know what to do now. I won’t mention what one of my friends did to the possums when they got into her vegie patch.
I think my MW may be a dud, Jordan. It started off in a luxurious 50cm diameter x 40cm high pot and made no progress beyond the canes it came with for 3 ½ months. When I put it into the ground, there were hardly any new roots; my god, when I moved Brother Cadfael from the same size pot into the ground at the same time, the root ball had filled the whole pot and was pretty solid, and I had to carefully tease out the gravel I put in the bottom to aid drainage. Even in the ground, MW has only reached 50 x 50cm where all my other Austins have surpassed their indicated height and Gertrude Jekyll is now 2m tall.
What’s happening with the other MW’s around Australia that haven’t been possum plagued? Mine doesn’t behave like its been described elsewhere.

Re: LOUIS XIV- WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE 2000- BLUEBERRY HILL- LORRAINE LEE
Dan, my MW does’t look as nicely branched as yours. I have the two canes it came with and a couple of measly, spindly shoots growing in opposite directions of each. The bush doesn’t really grow up, but more sideways like this:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
You can see the end of the cane in the background, the spindly horizontal thing it is. It connects to the cane it came with (not very clear, but visible, and that’s it). Putting him in the ground hasn’t done much to improve vigor, and new canes are just like it; very nice blooms though.

The canes are very thin and spindly and SHORT …
I don’t think it’s MW the rose that is at fault here, I think it’s a dud bush. I’ve read lots of positive comments about this rose in different places and yours is looking much better.

Mines a very small bush too Jaci. I know mine had a big setback but the stems are quite spindly and short. I'll give it time but its disappointing so far.

Re: LOUIS XIV- WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE 2000- BLUEBERRY HILL- LORRAINE LEE
I was going to wait a little longer to see what’ll happen in the ground, but it’s been on my mind to contact the supplier, Dan. It came with good roots, though.
Are your canes as spindly as mine, Silky? Mine has been painfully slow to grow. The other roses I planted into the same soil on the same day are making very good progress…
