Dee, this is a last season's bare root that didn't get pruned at all, I only took the tips off the canes because it was so small still. Maybe it would have been later if I'd pruned ??

Yes, I think keeping the secateurs away from 1st year bushes is a good idea O40. I feel they need all the wood and therefore leaves they can produce to catch the sun's energy so they can grow more quickly.
I have done the same as you with all thenew bushes I planted last year.
