Winter Roses
Still getting the odd flower or two despite the cold. I think we are going to start pruning next week-end.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Winter Roses
Knew I forgot something .... things are a bit frazzled here atm.
The top one quite rightly is a D.A "Grace" and the bottom one is the H.T "The Lady"
I should take a pic of their foliage , quite amazing for this time of the year , no B/S

Re: Winter Roses
Yes the "The Lady" is amazing, I think it would make a lovely breeding rose, I have not checked, but I think it is out of 'Granada'.

Re: Winter Roses
Ideal time is after frosts have gone but before the sap starts to flow.
That's almost impossible as we always get those late frosts after a spell of early spring weather.
I'm going to do mine in the next 2 weeks.

Re: Winter Roses
I can see your photo of The Lady, a beautiful rose photo and amazing that you still have a few roses. It seems forever since I have seen a rose here. I have The Lady ordered from Treloars, so thanks for showing it.
I don't get many photos come up because I am on a cheaper plan and my daughters down load alot of things.

Re: Winter Roses
Last year we started a bit earlier and managed dodge the worst of the frosts . It's minus 2 here this morning and I bet Jack Fost has been walking around ; just not game to stick my nose to far out past the wood barrow on the patio to take a look.
The Lady is a wonderful picking rose too and the cold has made the flowers hang on even longer.
I first photographed that bloom on 1/7[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] and then again on the 6/7[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] , then again on the 9/7 which is the pic in the first post and the yesterday when I was walking around the yard I saw that it was just dropping it's petals. The wind and rain that we had on friday probably battered it around a bit but there are two new equally lovely flowers now to replace it.

Re: Winter Roses
Despite this being one of the coldest (in terms of number of cold days (below 5C which is cold for here)) that I can remember some of the teas are defying the southwesterlies.
Souv de Madam Leonie Vernott usually doesn't flower until late September but here is a photo that I took with my phone (sorry about the quality) this morning.
Others including the Noisettes (Rev d'or has not stopped flowering since I rebuilt the pergola nder it last spring. It has been a mass of flowers)Chinas are doing the sameand even some of the geraniums are flowering.
Really weird!
