Just passing on an interesting observation...
Here in Tasmania my 'Mutabilis' is evergreen and flowers all year. During the hottest months none of the flowers formed OP hips, however, during winter... EVERY flower has formed an OP hip. We get the bulk of our rain during the winter and the ground is ALWAYS wet. We haven't had as many frosts as we have had but it has been frozen a few times so far this year. My guess is that these OP hips will be ripe and ready to harvest around mid-spring. I think this year I am going to collect pollen from various sources and freeze it during the summer so that next winter I can experiment with pollinating 'Mutabilis' during the winter. The photo-sensitive flowers might be a nice trait to play with and help to create more evergreen, ever-flowering, roses.
