To Strike a cutting.. what tha

Most of the peoples on this site know that my attempts at striking a cutting have been a complete failure. With over 60 attempts, NOT one ever took I tried every method and every medium known to man to get them to strike, they all failed.
Recently I needed to cut a couple o canes away from the brickwork on my home, so I just cut a couple to length, dipped the ends in some hormone powder and just stuck them straight into some potting mix I had lying around, nothing fancy, Knock me down with a feather, I think Ive got one to take.  What do others think

Fingers crossed Paul but a lot of roses send out shoots before they actually root. If you get a second shoot the cutting usually survives.

 Lets hope Paul, how long have they been in the pot ?

Thanks David, I put these cutting down on the 29th April, that makes it 19 days.
The latest pics, I have noticed another place where its sought of coming out a bit.
All this over one cutting lol, but for me, if it survives, it will be a first.

Just thinking, with the said cutting, when would be a safe time for it to see the sun. Working on the assumption that it has taken, any ideas out there.

Oh exciting! I am also crap at taking cuttings but I'm going to try a few when I prune over winter. If I'm pruning anyway, may as well.

I have had success like the way you have did it Paul didn't use nothing just stuck it in a pot or ground.I have found putting them in the ground more better then in a pot..This year I had success with Grand Amore and previous with Parole and Firefighter.Dont over water it and hope frost doesnt get to new shoots and spray foilage with seasoil or wormjuice.

While we are talking about striking.....has anyone tied three stems together to give it a stronger base and then proceeded to strike them......if so, did the stems grow together as one?....

Yeah Paul seasoil or wormjuice spray them couple times a week been really helpfull.

John, that's worth trying, what happens if the all strike.

you get a cane in each direction and none in the middle ..... hopefully the centre would heal as one and create a good base......but I don't know...hoping someone will know and let on....

I tried. One rooted and produced very healthy and strong leaves and roots, the second was weaker compared to the stronger one but perfectly OK and the third just dried and died. As the weaker one become weaker and weaker I had no choice but to seperate them.

I got the feeling tha it might be just a pure luck to get more than one cutting together to fuse at the roots and at the body while they are busty producing the roots. To me this is a non stop trial and error case if oyu have got the time and the energy.

Then I tried  bark grafting and root grafting.

Too early to speak as the whole thing is just about a year old.  Hoping to succeed with root grafting two newly striked cuttings to stop wind rocking even though the roses have a very strong root system...I have got to be careful with this is that the only drawback with this sort of grafting is if ever one gets a deadly disease every single plant connected to the root system get affected. So far - touch wood -  this has not happened to mine...I just can not understand how on earth the wind rocking is affecting some of my roses despite of the fact that their roots are spread in the ground to more that 35cm deep into the ground like a octopus'  multifingers.

I am trying to get inarching grafting to work too. I have some success with bark grafting.

My next project is to inarch or bark graft three to four newly sriked cuttings keeping their roots seperate in the hope that I will get a single trunk with three root system.
