Rose Cutting.
Hi everyone,
Could you experts advise me on a rose cutting I've been given please? It is in a potting mix suitable for cuttings and I've been told I will know if it has successfully taken root when the little "cane" starts shooting from the leaf axils. Is this correct or do I have to wait a long time. It has been potted up for about 6 weeks. Also, do I just leave it in the pot to mature?
Thanks. SueH.

Re: Rose Cutting.
I have found that sometimes potting mix works and sometimes it does not. Sometimes the bag method works sometimes it does not. Sometimes roses that others (or yourself) have trouble with strike and other times those that you normally have no problem with simply die off on you.
The humidity and heat up this way makes it all a bit of hit and miss.
My most recent success have come from simply sticking the cutting into the ground near the base of the rose (or anywhere for that matter).
Have a look in the propagation section. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Re: Rose Cutting.
Ausrose, without reading through all those links, would you mind telling me in short what you did with the potato photo? I am very interested in doing it this way!

Can't tell if you are being facetious or not roseman. I have read about people trialling this, so I was interested to see if it was something someone here had actually tried..

Re: Rose Cutting.
Perhaps you should elaborate then. Otherwise it looks like you are. And that doesn't really help anyone..

Rosy, Ausrose didn't do this. This was from a friend of his who lives in NZ who is using this method.

Re: Rose Cutting.
Thanks Neptune :-) No one else seemed to be able to answer me lol. Would be really interested to know how it went. My great uncle has given me a few tips how to grow from cuttings and seeds and he has been growing them for a really long time. There's a few of my roses that I would like duplicates of but I have had no success thus far with cuttings.

The link below might help those that wish to try what is not Doug's idea, he just reproduced it here, I believe that to be right, Doug will correct me if I am wrong, I don't mind being corrected, it is also posted on another thread.

I shall do this as an experiment on return from holidays and report on the outcome.
