Getting a cutting to sprout
Just wondering if anyone has tried to get cutting to sprout by wrapping in paper or plastic. If this is a successful way of doing things I would appreciate some feed back on the basics. I'm wanting to give this a go to see what results I can get.
Re: Getting a cutting to sprout
have you tried the potato method, or give it a try?

Re: Getting a cutting to sprout
Hi,
I've werapped cuttings in damp newspaper and put it in a shopping bag on top of the hot water surface. They all calloused beautifully. It's worth a try - do half this way and half the conventional way with hormone powder or gel.

One thing I have found is when callusing rootstock in water don't add Seasol to the water as it stops the process.

Re: Getting a cutting to sprout
Just a bit from England, whilst talking roses to some staff at "Hampton Court" yesterday, they have found dusting the bottom of your cutings(all plants) with hormone powder works better if the excess is shacken off. They have found the excess we leave on forms a ball and inhibits the powder from working.

Sorry to be so late in replying to this! I talked to staff at Hampton court also and they are very knowledgeable! They told me the same thing quite a few years ago! They must have "Old" gardeners there! LOL

Re: Getting a cutting to sprout
A factor I have found that comes into play when striking cuttings is the variety of the rose. Two roses I have struck at what I consider to be a good strike rate are Pope John Paul 11 and Our Rosamond.
