Some of my autumn roses
It's been so quiet here lately, you're probably all just admiring your beautiful roses. I thought I'd share some of my roses that were doing their thing last week.

Re: Some of my autumn roses
So beautiful Silkie! I feel as if I've had a walk in your garden, thank you for sharing your roses.
This is my first free morning forever, life seems to have been very busy lately. Hang the housework, I'm off to play in the garden for a while.

Re: Some of my autumn roses
Thanks Maree and Debbie.
Yep, that's my philosophy too. Housework always loses out. Much rather be outside in the garden, like you. I tell myself it feeds my soul so I don't feel guilty. Lol
Maree, Best Friend is a ripper. I'm so glad I got it last year. It really pops in the garden. Hasn't stopped blooming.

I adore Best Friend. Bought it last season. It was going gang busters and up and died on me while I was on holidays in January.

Re: Some of my autumn roses
Thank you Curdle. My Princess Alexandra is still just a baby and still in its original pot, waiting to go into the garden. However, small as she is, she has produced a few largish beautiful blooms and looks to be healthy. In bud again already so good repeat. Time will tell.
The dahlia is one that I picked up in Bunnings. Chandinagor (Rankins). I haven't grown many dahlias and was looking for a particular colour to blend with other things. Flowers are huge and just keep on appearing. Good value but I don't know whether I can be bothered digging up tubers and storing like you're supposed to. Never seem to get around to lifting bulbs etc.
Yeah Maree, go for it. By the way what did you finally decide for your arch? Planted yet or are you going bare root?

Re: Some of my autumn roses
Hi Silkyfizz. I have found out that if I take out my Dahlias etc that are frost tender they never seem to get planted back. So I now cover all frost tender plants with old sheets, blankets etc as the sun goes down and take them off mid morning as the day warms up and this works. Not only do you not have to dig up and store plants, you don't have to replant. This does mean a LOT less work and if you want to split the plants, in spring you just lift the plant a little with a fork and take off some tubers. As you can see I am a lazy gardener

Re: Some of my autumn roses
Haha sheets and blankets eh? Well that's a novel solution! We don't get frosts here (or very rarely) so I think I might try covering with a layer of lucerne and see if that works. I'm lazy too!

Re: Some of my autumn roses
If I weren't so entranced with admiring my sticks, I'd pause to admire your roses, silky. But those leafless, bloomless sticks - just can't tear myself away, ya know?

Re: Some of my autumn roses
Well, the roses were doing wonderfully well until the rains came, and didn't stop much. Now I have pots and pots of denuded canes, except for Summer Memories, Sightsaver, and a very few others. Everything else looks like they been napalmed. I never have seen the like, no.

Re: Some of my autumn roses
Errr Betsy doesn't sound good at all , must have been a lot of rain , Silky i dug and squeezed around the arch and the space between it and the water tanks , brought in some more soil and think i have made enough room to plant a Crown Princess Margarita each side , have them on order from Silky roses ....

Re: Some of my autumn roses
It's a GREAT choice, maree. Everyone raves about this one, and I am a firm believer in consensus, for the most part (excepting the eternally popularJude the Obscure and Double Delight).
Carole, do you have a pic of yours that you could share???
