Irena, where does one start, so many lovely roses. From 'Adam to Astrid'. 'Astrid Grafin Von Hardenberg' is beautiful. I will have to check that one out

Oh Poesie, I love your garden as much as your roses. It looks so captivatingly ancient, so charming, the door, the stone steps, the cascades of green. You seem to be having great results with your Austiins - right conditions, clealry. The contemporary Eyes for You looks incredibly apt and even lilke a classic in your garden, too.

Re: Roses in autumn - Slovenia
What a wonderful Tea and Austin collection! I can see from your Austins, you’re going for the fragrant ones; can I infer that all your Teas are fragrant, too? I’m planning to get more Teas and wondered if there were any in your collection that have a particularly strong fragrance? They’re all so beautiful, and I really like Celine Forestier, too. Very, very nice, Poesie, thank you for sharing them …

Poesie, congratulations on creating such a beautiful and charming garden. Your roses are looking healthy and happy. No wonder, I think I would be too if I could enjoy such beauty and grace. Fabulous! Thank you.

Re: Roses in autumn - Slovenia
Thank you for your comments.
Roseman, Astrid Grafin Von Hardenberg has wonderfull fragrance but it's upright, torny and not a bushy rose. The blooms have good rain resistance and colour is special.
Tea roses are very different. They are very sensitive to rain and hot summers. It doesn't surprise me that the hybrid teas, which are usually less sensitive, were breed later. The most sensitive to rain are White Maman Cochet and Marie Van Houte. Fragrance is very mild of all my teas except Rosette Delizzy and Archiduck Joseph. But this fragrance isn't as strong as that of Austin's.

Re: Roses in autumn - Slovenia
Poesie, I have an Archiduc Joseph, which goes under Monseur Tiller here in Australia and is the sole reason as to why I’m so keen on getting more Teas; I was over the moon when it first bloomed and it's still doing very well in the QLD heat (but it's not December yet, so I have to wait and see). I’ve taken the White Maman Cochet off my list and replaced it with Rosette Delizzy; thanks for the tip.

Hate to through you into a spin.
I don't know whether its the heat or what but our White Maman Cochet and Marie Van Houtte flower a lot better than Rozette de Lizy which of late has tended to ball in our wet and humid weather.
Climbing White Maman Cochet. (The Shrub also flowers this well)

Its funny. We grow teas because they can stand the heat and humidity better than other varieties. Most Hybrid Teas are simply blackspot magnets where we live while the teas (well most of them) are quite happy with the conditions.
We don't spray and generally have very acidic soil may also affect the growth of the more tender Hybrid Teas.
Noisettes, chinas and hybrid musks also seem to do ok where we live.
Have a look at what we can grow

Re: Roses in autumn - Slovenia
I can't say for others, but my teas are beautiful in good conditions in the spring or autumn (without rain). Today it's raining and here are some pictures. And yes, also Rosette Delizy looks very sad and has tended to ball.

But this is nature. For some a few meters far from the rain is good.

...also don't forget that teas have special old charm and that they are beautiful when conditions are good.

Re: Roses in autumn - Slovenia
Ahh, look at them Gary, your photos and garden are a real treat and especially those blooms in late November. Yes, I’m definitely spinning: my Tea list has blown out, and every bit of information helps. At one stage my whole 2013 order consisted of Teas.
There’re two Marie Teas, the Van Houtte and a Lambert and I had both of them on my list. The lighter colours appeal … Rozette de Lizy I thought would be a bit awkward to place with her vibrant colours, but if the fragrance were outstanding, I’d design an area especially around her. I’ll keep them all on the list for now.
Poesie, just when I slowed down spinning, you’re giving me another push …
Those photos certainly show a lot and Rosette Delizy’s colours are not as bright as some photos I saw suggest. I better save a copy of this link to take another look before I place my order next year, thanks.

Re: Roses in autumn - Slovenia
No it does not have fragrance. It is passed around by cuttings as it does not have any reproductive organs. Some people say it is a mutation of Old Blush which is one of the four stud chinas that brougfht repeat flowering in to the European breeding lines. Anyone out there who does not agree with my story please correct me. We had a landscape designer enthusiastically remark: That green rose would look wonderful in large white saucer shaped pots outside a minimalist modern home!" Other people hate it but the florists love it as something that provides unusual foliage in an arrangement. In the heat of summer its flowers are a more rusty colour.

Re: Roses in autumn - Slovenia
Very interesting, Bonita, I like it even without a fragrance …
I happen to read a copy of ‘A Rose by Any Name’ at the moment and the green rose is actually featured: “Documentary evidence suggests that, even though it is classed as a China rose, R. chinensis, ‘Viridiflora’ may have originated in South Carolina or Georgia. Buist’s first specimens came from stock acquired in Charleston in 1833. …” The authors go on following the rose’s path to France where people were disgusted by it “a green eyed monster like this is not inviting”. I think I should have one …
Your picture is much nicer than the one in the book, which I think is only a plate.

Re: Roses in autumn - Slovenia
Yes but then I am pretty inclusive now that I live on acreage. It is a bit like a house with too many storage cupboards - you hoard.
However, it grows to about thigh high at my place and as it is cutting grown throws out a lot shoots. It looks lopsided at present as I cut quite a bit for the last rose display in October. I give guttings - send me a PM if you wish to get some from me sometime.
