Re: Black Caviar Rose
I am around With all the rain and wind my beautiful roses are not doing so well. Even with a well drained area they have been shot and I had to get rid of some of them

Re: Black Caviar Rose
Thanks and I hope you get some rain soon! It sort of went from extreme heat to a cyclone. The ones in pots held up best. Almost ready to give up on most of the ones in the garden

Re: Black Caviar Rose
First it was extreme heat, no rain whatsoever. Then the cyclone, so heavy wind and rain, probably one of the worst storms I have ever seen here and now constant rain. They just hate it

Re: Black Caviar Rose
Rosy it must be hard watching your roses suffer from your extreme weather, knowing there is nothing you can do. As maree said, maybe they will surprise you when they get the chance to recover. I hope that's soon!

Re: Black Caviar Rose
I sure hope so Silky, I gave them a small trim because the leaves are everywhere so I am hoping they will spring back to life.

Re: Black Caviar Rose
They should recover in time, the rain with all the "goodies" in it will take time but it will nourish the plant when it gets the chance to dry and and take them up. what is the soil like free draining of partially water logged, if it is free draining you may need to give them some light feed of a liquid fert, IMO

Re: Black Caviar Rose
Thanks Roseman I do hope so. They are on a small incline so they do drain well, however, there is some clay under the soil (quite a fair way under but it is there) and I have a feeling that any water that does not drain away is lingering near the roots because it has no where else to go. My roses out the front yard are on even more of a hill (with clay underneath) and they are thriving. I did put some organic rose pellets on them the other day when it wasn't like this (when I thought the rain had stopped). Do you think some Seasol might help? What would you suggest?

Re: Black Caviar Rose
Any of the liquid ferts, some are complete, others may only contain only form of fertilizer., Seasol is fine, I use it, IMO the liquid you use depends on the soil type you have. Mine being, black loam and is "highish" in Nitrogen, I adjust what I might use.

"I like liquid."
For one happy moment there, I thought roseman was going to talk grapes, not roses.

Re: Black Caviar Rose
I haven't tested our soil I just don't have time working full time and renovating unfortunately. They do really well though, it was new soil from the previous owner, worms a plenty. Will give them another run of seasol and hope they pick up after this rain.

Re: Black Caviar Rose
Rosy, feed them now as it is raining up your way isn't it, put the raincoat on/umbrella up, best time to feed any plant.
Just to thread jack for one second, we have picked our Tempranillo(red) and Semillon(white), so far.
