The Sowing of Seed has started
Sowed 14 crosses yesterday, so all I have to do now, is wait for the sight of green.

Re: The Sowing of Seed has started
Dave that R. davidii was used in the breeding of Baby Love. The Canary Bird cross was quite a difficult one which I only got 2 seeds, with the colour I don't know what I will get at the moment. The Sutters Gold X Angele Pernet, the only thing that worries me is the petal count at this moment, I think it will be low in numbers.
The one that makes you giddy, thats what happens when you use your own seedlings which have n't ben registered and given a name, it can get a bit long winded, but mind you wait untill you see the pedrigree of those offspring. Its like writing the chronicles
That cross if anything germinates will produce awesome offspring.

Re: The Sowing of Seed has started
I like the sound of this one
La Vesuve X Unk Yellow Grandiflora
Had La Vesuve cutting grown when I was on the farm in Donnybrook. Wonderful rose and nearly evergreen all year. A great favourite with the little leaf cutter bees who at certain times of the year would leave me with a bush covered in lacy patterened leaves.

Re: The Sowing of Seed has started
I am starting mine next week. This winter will be burning off my rejects from 4 years ago. Some of the OP Pink Perpetue have promise. Visitors have twisted my arm and taken a couple of the better ones like a deep mauve Iceberg seedling. Looked like Iceberg but deeper mauve colour. Probably should have placed more value on them but see garden rose being overtaken by low maintainence type plants.
I made reference to nurseries peddling those unhealthy HT's and it wouldn't be long before the general public became aware of the maintainence needed. The wrong roses needing all those pestercides and fungacides mentioned in their care literature certainly doesn't help.
I walk around the old and new suburbs and wonder where have all the rose gardens gone? Sincerely hope our rose breeders are aiming to produce good low maintainence easy care roses before it's too late
