It's been a long time coming but suddenly The Roses are Out! Today's pix....

Menja is right behind my tank and hard to photograph well but I've included her because you don't see her too often

and Veilchenblau is filling the air around it with the most delicious warm scent

Absolutely beautiful, Meryl! I love Veilchenblau, I've always wanted to plant it but I think it would need a protected spot out of our hot sun. It's a pleasure to look at yours.

Re: Spring in a Blue Mountains garden
Really pretty garden photos, Meryl. What a lovely garden, as your Sydney garden is. The blooms look huge. Your Preiennals go well with the roses.
Wow, your Veichenblau is spectacular !
Maree, I have a young Veichenblau growing up under part of a steel arch that has my Banksias climbing over it. I wondered if it would survive under there but it bloomed very beautifully this Spring and next year I think it will be going up through the top maybe, although the Banksia has grown heaps too since it flowered this Spring. I thought you could do something like that to have your Veichenblau. You are worried about keeping the colour in the blooms are you ?

Yes, rosemeadow (sorry, I've forgotten your name!) fading colour was what I was thinking of. I saw a beautiful bloom of V. at Orange last week. It was the colour it always appears in books, which is never apparent out here!

Re: Spring in a Blue Mountains garden
Now this is my kind of rose garden!!! Exactly what mine will look like... if I can ever get rid of the weeds and keep the lawn mowed
Re: Spring in a Blue Mountains garden
Lovely to see your mountain garden in bloom over the years, Meryl. You are a real artist to create such lovely combinations of roses and perennials.
Simon, you will get there - of all people, you will get there!

Re: Spring in a Blue Mountains garden
You are all too kind, literally - though I'm lapping it up. (I can't think of a nicer compliment than to know that Simon's planning something similar.) You are too kind because the reality isn't tidy and under control. I'm not there enough of the time for that. There's no lawn at all - it disappeared to make room for roses. And the garden is the scene of an endless struggle between rampant perennials introduced to beat the weeds but ultimately beating the desirable plantings. You don't see that in selected photos. At the moment I am fighting back against a tidal wave of hot pink Silene and yellow evening primoses that tower over my head.
Yes, that's Fudge waiting for me to put the camera away. He wants it known that he's not a toy but a comparatively large miniature poodle. That's the middle size.

It's sounding better and better all the time
Re: Spring in a Blue Mountains garden
Just beautiful Meryl! How I long to have that look in my new garden again, but I'm afraid I'd never keep up with it here. You must have your hands full between Sydney & the Blue Mts. Your work and flair have certainly rewarded you.
I've been tempted to introduce the pink & white evening primroses here, but can remember both going viral in my last garden, thanks for the reminder.

They still do in our garden in a couple of spots where we have left them to grow.
