The soils around Deni vary, grey clays, sandy loams and where I have my roses out of town it is Cobram Loam, which is red , slightly clayey loam. Roses go crazy in it. The soils around Hay are these Red Brown Soils, moist they are very easy to dig, but once dried out their like cement.

That's interesting. Here we have about a foot or more, 18 inches maybe, of black soil over red clay.

Ok ...I uplifted four bushes because they were not performing to the way I wanted and have replaced them with
Double Knockout
Governor Macquarie
Brigadoon
Saint Patrick

and now I am looking for a performing Florabunda to replace a Freisa as it keeps throwing up single and not clusters and have Imp on my mind for that. The other is Lets Celebrate which is a HT.

The other two I'm looking for, are a large blooms Australian HT and a Decorative HT

Larry, I bought two Brindabella's about 5 years ago when first released which were a red and white Bouquet.
The read hasn't grown at all and produces about 2 blooms a year.
Bouquet is a good doer, blooms well and doesn't get BS.
It does show what looks like severe sunburn at the end of the season prior to losing the leaves. This is the only rose here that does that, could be the minature genes in it's background.
I am going to use it for breeding as it makes a few hips and produces a lot of pollen. How fertile ????.

The red is going in the garbage bin this winter.

Yep - I was referring to the Brindabella site Dave directed me to. My five purchases of Brindabellas are looking more iffy every day. Ah well - half the fun of buying roses is knowing there is a huge probability that half of them will be thrown out and you can play rose roulette with the suppliers again next year.

Larrey its amazing how many so called clean roses suddenly develop every bug under the sun. This year I have seen Austin roses stripped bare of leaves and just canes standing in the garden beds.

Dave - his name is Alvin and he has a deep appreciation of roses. On his home planet he is regarded as the king of rose hybridisers Alvin visits earth regularly to commune with rose aficionados such as myself. He is making a detailed study of Uncle Dave Austin's breeding methods in the hopes of crossing some of our Earthly roses with some of his own creations. Should be interesting. He often red cards me for what he considers my grievous errors in rose cultivation.

Rosalie -
Ma mère se conduit mal beaucoup plus que je ne

To more germane matters. The problem with roses is their extreme capriciousness. How they perform in even slightly different environments can be baffling so I still hold out some hopes for my Brindabelllas. I’ve often had roses I’ve considered complete dogs, passed them on to friends only to see them perform like champions in their gardens. Such are roses – more flighty than the space shuttle. Every season with new roses is a triumph of hope over experience.

When my daughter comes home from her Dad's place I will ask her try to read all your French. She is doing really well in her year nine French class.
I am adding to my collections of the different types of roses I have. I wasn't going to because of the mine maybe comming, but now I will as I want to do more on my garden reghardless. We might be right to stay here for several years yet, we will just have to play it by ear.
So goody, I get to plant roses this year !

Glad you've decided to stay at Gulgong for a while longer Karen, you've done way too much to leave it all now. Don't let the coalmine deter you.

PS - you can copy the 'French portion' eg 'mon Ami' and paste it into the Google search engine and ask it to translate it for you - make sure you choose from French to English in this case. Here's the link [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
