List of ALL Australian bred roses on HMF

The 2013 Ausrose of the Year Joyce Abounding(Chapman) added another Grand Champion ribbon to its list of ribbons winning the top award at the Day 1 2015 Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Imp is a very popular floribunda bred by George Dawson and introduced in 1970 by Brundrett’s. Imp’s white, red edged flowers with a silver reverse and flat open rosette shape were an immediately popular and have remained so for over forty years. A compact bush being 1mX1m Imp produces abundant 6cm flowers throughout the season. A hardy disease resistant rose with mild fragrance Imp’s has glossy, dark green leathery foliage that sets the blooms off has attracted judge’s attention on the show bench over many years. In recent years Imp has won two Grand Champion ribbons and numerous Australian Bred Champion ribbons at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The popularity of Imp was shown when it was placed a 40c stamp in 1982.

Joyce Abounding was Grand Champion of the show it was also Champion Australian Bred and Champion Miniflora. The Grand Champion is chosen from the various champions.

To date there have been four Australian Bred Roses of the Year these being 2013 Joyce Abounding, 2014 Flemington Racecourse, 2015 Imp and 2016 Chinese Sunrise.

I have the first three....I don't think we have Chinese Sunrise over here yet....

That's interesting, it's not listed on HMF, 'Chinese Sunrise'.

For some unknown reason it doesn't come up under China Sunrise however if you go to HMF - Breeders - Australian - Laurie Newman - Plants Bred you will find it.

Look up -Zhang Zuo Shuang  (which is another name)

That is correct.

2017 Australian Bred Rose of the Month to date have been:- February-Rae Duncan (George Dawson), March-Tahlia(Richard Walsh) and April-Delicious(Eric Welsh) these roses along will go up for the Australian Bred Rose of the Year at the end of the year along with seven more Australian Bred Rose of the Month selected as the year goes on.

Be aware some of these are not good garden roses needing a lot of work to keep them at their best.

I grow all of these roses and have found them to very good at handling the heat  of the Australian climate as a result of being Australian bred. Like all of the modern roses areas of high humidity can be a problem with respect to fungal diseases.

Just wondering does anyone grow the australian hybrid tea rose....BRISBANE BLUSH and what are your thoughts on it for exhibition form and health wise??
