Great to see some happy roses. Most of mine are all mush with the rain. Dark Lady is a heart-stopper.

Re: What's flowering 2010/11
The last couple of years Alee, not a lot of anything so this year I tried something called Sudden Impact , which didn't have an impact at all that I could see so I have gone back to my old NPK and chook manure regime .
Certainly easier on the hip pocket !

Not a rose I know , but a very important part of my bug fighting arsenal.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Julia's Rose again. This bush is very shy with it's flowers , so when it does flower I tend to be out snapping away at them.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Wonderfully rosy, Rosalie! Julia's Rose is not a good performer IMHO but I do like the blooms when she gives them.
LOVE your little blue friend!

Re: What's flowering 2010/11
Rosalie, Julia's Rose has such intense colour in your shot, is it always so rich. Does it set hips, reason being one of our members named Damo thought it would make a great breeder. I have spoken to him about this and thought how it might cross with Just Joey or a couple of DA's.

Re: What's flowering 2010/11
I'll keep an eye on this crop of flowers and see what it does . I can't remember if I cut any off it at pruning time or not.
I have just been out and snapped a few more pics of it.
This is supposed to be the **Climbing** Julia's Rose. Please pardon my mirth but I can't imagine it ever being that vigorous. Admittedly it's growing in a tough part of the garden and tlc is scant , but not once have I seen a shoot on it that would make me think of a climber.
What I do find different to the "bush" versions that I have grown before , is that I do get more flowers off it and it does produce more than one flower at a time which was what I got from the bush roses.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Who knows , if she's a good girl I might shift her to a better part of the garden next winter for a bit of pampering.
While it has got a bit of BS on the old lower leaves , [as do a lot of my roses because they are not sprayed] the upper leaves are clean.
Two flowers for you , one on each side of the bush , one in the morning sun and one in the shade.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Seems to make a lot of pollen if that's of use to anybody.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
HMF lists it as a tetraploid ; what does this mean in relation to using it as a parent rose ?
cheers. Rosalie

Re: What's flowering 2010/11
howdy rosalie
what gives this rose its unique colour is, (i looked at it with magnifying glasses) it is yellow based with a layer of blue cells covering, i have never thought of using it a breeder in any way because would nt be transfered over, it however has dr aj verhage in it, so would get some thing of a nice shape.
tetraploid just means 4 sets of chromosomes as with a lot of modern roses today , just means if you cross it moderns you get a nice balanced chromosome count, as with a triploid you have 2 sets say in the ovary and 1 set in the pollen (unbalanced)
