What's flowering 2010/11

Despite the beetles , the front yard is slowly filling up with colour again . It's very hard though to find a totally unmunched flower so I ask you to please overlook the odd toothmark or two .

One of my unknowns , given to me for Mother's Day . Kevin tried to buy me Shocking Blue apparently after seeing something about it on G.A but they had sold out in Bunbury and the sales assistant sold him this one instead.

The Little Girl's Rose . This is bush #2 budded for me by a lady who used to have a rose nursery down in Donnybrook. This is one of the bushes my sister pruned and she cut it back nearly to the stump!
It will be at it's best after the beetles go; the things eat all the stamens out of the flowers and chew the petals.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I love your 'Little Girl's Rose'... it's really the most beautiful thing!

I guess one day every mother has to loosen the strings and let her baby out into the big wide world , so I'll put your name on the list Simon.
Although strictly speaking , it has ventured out but not far from home. I have struck the odd cutting and given it away in special circumstances .

The last one I gave away in August to the lady who had been the gardener up at our school when she retired , to plant in her garden for her two grandies .

I know it has to venture further afield [ to proper "rose growers" ] to be evaluated more extensively ; that's the hard part of cutting the umbical cord
And you lot must do strange things to roses o/e you must do.
They grow without a lot of fuss and bother here but there seems to be a ....? not sure if it's a disease phobia over there or a disease epidemic .

epidemic is more like it... even my black spot has black spot... nothing attractive about roses that have no foliage and bare cankery stems... nothing fancy gets done to mine... they get stuck in the ground and then the umbilical cord is cut on them too... it's sink or swim... unfortunately a good proportion of them sink. You lived on the east coast... you remember what it's like here

The furtherest east I've ever lived was Jerdacuttup and I didn't have time to grow roses there , sheep were my ruling passion then.
