Tamora x Queen Elizabeth

This cross is in its second year trial. A good cutflower on single stems. I do like the colour change from apricot buds to wide open (10 cm) parchment shades. Nice sweet light myhrr smell. Will bud it this year. If anyone would like one let me know.

Thanks for your comments:) The roses are still looking good in the vase - all shades of parchment now. The bush is still covered in buds. I'll save one for you Karen and see what can be done about WA quarantine, OzRose.

Not easily... or Tas... only cuttings and budwood can be sent to both places. Cuttings can be sent to WA using the same guidelines as cuttings to Tas. They can't have leaves, roots, insects, or any of debris. Rosalie, I'd be putting in some cuttings now to use as understocks and brush up on your grafting skills

OK so I can send cuttings/budwood - thanks Simon. Had a look at WA quarantine website and my eyes glazed over trying to figure it out.

The same roses are still looking cool in the vase. But we haven't had any 30+ heat yet.

I think it's cute the way they half close up at night.

I don't think you are alone in that lol. it gets really frustrating when you see something in a catalogue that you think "WOW I really like that" and not just roses either , and then get to the business end and find the

Long Tall Sally does this also ; it's the first rose in my garden that I have noticed doing it.

Looks like I will have to attack the good Dr. and strike some cuttings ; never tried budding before

Bruce taught Dave how to graft so another thing you could try, Rosalie, is to see if Dave can graft some buds onto a rootstock (Dave, I have what seems, so far, to be a virus free version of Dr Phooey if you'd like a plant) and then wait and send you cuttings with the grafted buds on them... like stents. He can even pre-callous them and send them that way to improve the odds. Might take a while to get the whole thing running but as they say, nothing worthwhile is quick and easy

I am trying a new [well to me anyway] of striking cuttings to see if I get them to root easier .
I want to get some more plants of The Little Girl's Rose up and going.

I'm going to have to learn how to bud , I can see that , but it's what to use for rootstock.
I was wondering about using Softee even, because it's easy to strike and grows well on it's own roots [and I have plenty of it ]
Are all rootstocks compatible with different roses or can you get tissue rejection like with human transplants ?

Being a mini, 'Softee' may well have a dwarfing effect on the scion section though... Mr Moore bred a miniature multiflora to graft minis onto to avoid the problem of pushing minis too hard and making them too big with large thick stems totally losing that miniature charm. Bruce and David know more about choosing the correct stock for the corrent plant but yes... they each have different effects on the scion section. There are traditional understocks used for different purposes but I don't think this practise has much favour these days... a one-size fits all approach is more common now.

Well I'm hoping to see Bruce soon to have another go. My first budding attempts all took, but the last lot all died. And Bruce has refined his skills even further - patch budding I think. So I need another in-service PD course LOL.

Simon you'd have to ask Bruce about rootstock. I think he favours multiflora, and it seems to do better here than Phooey. And it's a different rootstock for WA?

Have a go, Rosalie. It's exciting to get even one bud to take!

Dave, if possible could you please take video of Bruce performing all the budding tricks. I am very eager to improve my budding skills.
