'Angel Wings' rose seedlings...
I got home tonight to find a 4th 'Angel Wings' seedling up (& an OP 'Queen Elizabeth' seedling) so I thought I might as well begin to show you all how they progress (assuming anyone cares LOL). The seeds were bought off eBay last December & kept in the fridge for a month before sowing. The first seedling took 24 days to germinate & one has popped up about every 2 weeks since. They are strong little things & the first now has a cluster of little buds on it:

Very cool Damo. Don't forget to show us the first blooms!
Queen Elizabeth is a great mum. Always produces fat hips here - atm she
is bearing hips of M. Tillier, Chaucer and Abe Darby.

Re: 'Angel Wings' rose seedlings...
G'day Dave!
My OP 'Queen Elizabeth' seedling only exists because of you. I saw your 'Tamora' x 'Queen Elizabeth' seedling (& liked it) then found a hip on my plant and sowed the seeds on Dec 20 last year! I have seen that good things can come out of 'QE' when used as both seed & pollen parent so I thought why not!?!
ATM I have:
1 'QE' x 'Fabulous' hip &
2 'QE' x 'Jacqueline du Pre' hips.
I also crossed its sport 'Shell Queen' with 'Mrs Mary Thomson' (2 hips) and one of its offspring 'Blessings' with 'Jacqueline du Pre' (5 hips) & 'Rosenprofessor Sieber' (2 hips).
I like your crosses on 'QE' btw...especially the 'Abraham Darby' one!

Re: 'Angel Wings' rose seedlings...
Tell me about the sport 'Shell Queen" Damo. You have an amazing collection of roses! QE is a butt ugly plant, long, lanky, leafless LOL but a great bloomer here. I've seen her in many parts of the world, half buried in snow to the sub tropics and you can never miss her. Isn't she in the Rose Hall of Fame?

Re: 'Angel Wings' rose seedlings...
'SQ' is as ugly a plant as 'QE' Dave (as expected of a sport I suppose LOL) but I like the soft pink colour so much more...very attractive! The flowers seem to glow - *hmmmm thinking of a better word/description* - they appear to be lit from within! Hahaha...
I am tempted to grow a hedge of both roses (alternating) & then grow a mauve/purple clematis through it to hide the flaws! LOL...
I'm pretty sure 'QE' was awarded some huge award in the 70's from memory & of course I think she deserved it!!!

Damo, mine have just started popping up. There seems to be about 20 so far. Did you let these flowers mature and open? If so what were they like?
Re: 'Angel Wings' rose seedlings...
I've only got one seedling up of QR x Sydney Linton. Beautiful red stem and large bluish foliage. Can't wait for the first flower.

Re: 'Angel Wings' rose seedlings...
Simon, I have 7 seedlings so far! 3 that germinated during warmer weather that have gained some height & grow well & 4 that germinated later & are stunted little things! Well done on getting 20ish!
The oldest has had 2 flushes of blooms so far and is still well under 10cm high. The blooms came in little clusters, were made up of 5 petals only & were palest yellow edged in soft pink. The leaves are very much like multiflora & there is no PM or BS to speak of on any of these seedlings.................yet! LOL

Re: 'Angel Wings' rose seedlings...
Yep... I've worked why they call them 'Angel Wings'.... look at those tiny little fringed sepals... look like tiny like angel wings to me
I've been germinating all winter Dave... to see if I can and to see if my seedlings can get a head start on spring... hit the ground running so to speak...

Re: 'Angel Wings' rose seedlings...
All my hips are just sitting there in zip bags. Had other distractions this winter so am going to put them in the fridge now and bring them out end of March to mid April for germination.
Managed to get 40 'Superba' germinated and two 'Com Red' ( Made up Names) this spring.
The first batch of seedlings now 3 years old are now in 8" pots so am looking forward to the blooms this season. I am retired so can give potted roses the attention to make them grow well.
Wouldn't be dead for dollars, having too much fun.
