Bearded Iris and roses - Page 2 Empty Re: Bearded Iris and roses

'Silverado' has been recommended as an excellent breeder Rip. I think Iris breeding is going to take more patience than rose breeding. It takes 2-3 years before the first flowers appear. Wouldn't be a problem once you had rotations going but the first few years would mean a lot of seedlings would need to be kept on just to see flowers... pretty exciting though when the first flower appears I reckon though... it was exciting enough when 'Double Shot' flowered for the first time! I think it could be almost as addictive as rose breeding... which reminds me... I need to go and check my seedlings and see which ones are up now and throw some water and weak thrive around Smile Ciao

Mmmm, I do like Double Shot and Corps de Ballet! BUT I really have no room for more, lots of mine are still in smallish pots and will have to go elsewhere before long. One I have always fancied is Autumn Circus, or Circus Circus. I love the veins and stitching on them.
Scuse me while I try a little experiment-
No - didn't work. I was trying to "Drag and Drop" a picture of an iris from my desktop to here but it didn't want to know. I spent a happy hour or so dragging photos from the online iris sites on to a document I had made with a list of the irises I've got. I'll hope for blooms and post pics then!

I know just how it is, Thee.

I carefully wrote out labels on plastic, stuck them in the ground beside each iris....................and a puppy we had at the time, had a great afternoon ripping them all out and mixing them up. >8@

There are so many bearded iris that many similar colours have different names. Here's a few of mine ( 2008 season), but none have any of the names so far posted.

You have some beauties there, Abbi. I like the apricot toned ones. What am I saying - I love them all!
You are right when you say that some of them are very similar to others, it's very confusing. I think there are endless varieties too.

Embarassed ...if only I could remember their names, Simon.

I know some of them because I noted them on photos...but not these two i'm afraid.

If they turn up in the ones i've brought with me, i'll send you a piece.

FYI: Just be aware that iris can be covered by PBR too... I've been doing a little digging and it is actually violating the PBR to gift a piece of a plant with a current PBR. It's not violating the PBR to buy the plant and then gift it or to buy the plant and sell it again because you no longer want it... but giving a piece to someone and keeping the plant yourself is violating the terms of the PBR Loopy You can use the same PBR link, in the links forum, to search for iris names too... though I have a feeling iris do it a little differently... need to do a bit more digging... Hmmmm

Now seeing your pictures I WANT LOTS & LOTS of them.

I hope you are all ashamed of yourselves for showing me such lovely flowers. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Carole.... see the link to Impressive Irises... I spoke with Colleen yesterday and she told me the business is up for sale... you could take over all the stock and keep it going... then you'd have hundreds of different ones Wink Sounds like a pretty sweet operation actually Cool
