Re: All this Winter
This is one you will not know, I showed a single bloom before, it's Guirlande d' Amour, I believe it is not available in OZ:

Re: All this Winter
because it has been still discussed about weepers I know it, the same denotation is used in German for a 'peking willow'-shaped standard: Trauer=WeeperThe Estate wrote:...would be nice as a weeper if it wept, you know what I mean ,
possibly it's also selfwatering
Re: All this Winter
In the middle of the shrubbery, behind the 'Crown Princess....', a almost forgotten seedling of 'Apricola' from 2007 is growing up, toilsomely searching the way to the sunlight. I will name it 'Forgotten Beauty':

it has been bred from a hip, which has jumped in my pocket, in a garden center

Re: All this Winter
I love your photos Bemo. It is lovely to see some spring bloom in the middle of winter. Your Guirlande d' Amour is similar in the flower to my Adelaide de Orleans.
Your rose lit is also interesting becaue there are quite a few that I have never heared of. Even though we have lots of varieties here in Oz I think there are many many more elsewhere that have not been imported because of cost mainly I suppose.

Re: All this Winter
Dee, yes it is partially the cost. The main contributing factor is a Phd student about 5 years ago studying Oak trees, I am led to believe, there is a chance of it being past to roses. It is called SOD, sudden oak death. David Austin has to send his roses via South Africa at present. He is trying to go through Japan as I understand, so they might get here faster, not sure how.

Hi Roselovers,
first I have to say 'thank you' for the great feedback, must also say, you are a fantastic audience.
Then I have two for 2day
'Honky Tonk Woman' is still in a pod and looks a little bit dolled up:

'Bonica' is one of the late starters this year, imagine this rose together with a dark blue 'delphi':

Re: All this Winter
Bernhard... is that Honky Tonk Woman (that's ones of your hyrbids isn't it???) growing in the ground with gravel around it? You have just given me the most awesome idea!!! 'Forgotten Beauty' is a great name for a rose actually... and 'Aprikola' seems like it would be a good parent... check these links out about it:

first HTW should be named 'I saw here standing there' after one of the early Beatles songs, but it was too long for a rose name. So I decided to name it HTW, althoug the song is from the stones
let it rock

Hi Simon, yes it is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. This rose is not yet planted in the ground, it's growing in a pod which stays on gravel. The gravel is also ready prepared to plant roses ore something there, beneath is a scarf against weed (don' know the english meaning).
'Aprikola' as parent plant is also often dicussed in the german forums, but I have not seen any good result yet. Although 'forgotten Beauty' has very nice blooms, it is not resistant vs BS.
My favourite rose for resistance intake will become 'Jacobs Krönung', a doughter of 'Immensee'. This rose has been also mentioned in the last link you sent. I have not shown any results of my last year cross from 'JK' because the sedlings have not yet bloomed, but the foliage looks excellent.
breeding regards

It doesn't look to be in that pic does it roseman, although i can see a few nasty spines on those leaves.
I dont really like Dorothy Perkins and Im not a great fan of a lot of red roses but that one is lovely.

Ripley, we could start a new thread on that subject. If you do list yours, and see how many follow, the forum is a bit quiet at the moment, we have people looking but not posting, any variety of red will start you off.
