Re: finally some blooms
Silky, From the first photo you posted I thought it might not be MM as I only saw a single bloom. It is a lovely plant. As it is a floribunda, it has a central leader, if you pinch it out all the surrounding flowers will open at once(just a bit of trivia)

Re: finally some blooms
Thank you all. Just starting to get the knack of photographing flowers, never thought to do it before I came on here.
Roseman, it's hard to deprive myself of even one bloom LOL. By the time the main bloom has finished and been deadheaded, the others bloom together anyway.

Re: finally some blooms
If you take the centre out of any multi headed plant it will do the same. If you look up mini roses and more to the point roses that are listed as 'spray roses' it is how they are manipulated for the florist industry.

I love my Kardinal too, flowers are beautiful and last so long. This must be the second week for those buds, they open so slowly and don't fade. The colour just glows in the distance and doesn't disappear into the greenery like the darker reds. If only it had the perfume to match!
Thats it I'm getting a Kardinal silky...

Re: finally some blooms
These are rose blooms from the garden I look after at work, what they are I have no Idea, but they grow well . Some of these big HTs will be used in my breeding programme this year.

The white film on the leaves isn't PM but from the muddy water out of the billabong.

Re: finally some blooms
I would really like to know what that top Floribunda is, colour is beautiful, growth is a bit scraggy but can be rectified with a good match up to strengthen it.

Re: finally some blooms
I’ve see Margaret Merril described as the fragrant Iceberg, but the bloom you’re showing, Silky; it’s much nicer than Iceberg all around, higher and fuller. Looks like MM will bust my OGRs only restriction for next near. Funny about that smaller bush you have, might go to show that we can’t just take one sample to get a clear picture of a rose’s performance … Crepuscle sounds and looks wonderful, too; and really nice photos of them all.
Looking after roses for work …. What a nice job to have. Do you know what the whites are, Warren?

Re: finally some blooms
Thanks Jaci. Yes I think Margaret M is a far better rose even without its beautiful perfume. I find Iceberg flowers a bit insipid and don't do anything for me. MM has thicker petals and a more substantial flower.

Re: finally some blooms
Thanks for going through the trouble of posting a link to MM’s lineage, David, but this info is available only to Premium Members of HMF, and the link didn’t work for me (just letting you know to save you this time in future).

Re: finally some blooms
Hmmm, I’ll think about it, David.
Silky, I initially felt a bit let down by Iceberg, too; after all it’s THE #1 rose in terms of sales for distributers, there must be a reason for that, and yet I could not find one. But after a while my Iceberg actually grew on me, I really like white and it has a nice habit, flowers pretty much non-stop and doesn’t mind the heat, neat package.
I’m really looking forward to my MM now, though …

Re: finally some blooms
Jaci I know what you mean about shape, habit, nonstop flowering of Iceberg. But the flowers just don't cut for me. Must admit though that Iceberg looks fantastic in an all green and white garden that you sometimes see in suburban gardens. Especially looks good from a distance. Maybe it's a case of familiarity breeds contempt.
You will love your MM.

Re: finally some blooms
Actually, that’s not as much as I thought it might be. It’s probably not the level of information that I require at this stage of my rose growing life, but I have been using this resource pretty much full on. Might give my $ to them, rather than my local rose society …
