Re: finally some blooms
Look at these perfect blooms AND leaves. I’m having a second look at seamungus! That is an amazing Cerpescule and the contrast with the Lavender (if it is a Lavender) is just stunning. I bet masses of flowers like that produce fragrance that can be smelled from a good distance away.

Re: finally some blooms
Thanks Jaci and Jordan. That is a lilac backing the crepescule, reaching for the sky. They surround a corner of the deck where I sometimes hide with a book. Perfume yum. Hmmm healthy leaves yes, but just found a touch of black spot on Dioressence and its neighbour Chartreuse de Palme this morning. They both actually look the best they've ever been too, with quite a few buds. Could be the seamungus? Also tried Rock Munash so who knows. It's been so wet here in Melbourne, showers/drizzle constant, so I shouldn't be surprised about BS. Want to give them some bicarb solution later today when it stops spitting rain.
Jordan have you found any BS on your leaves?

Re: finally some blooms
When I used the bicarb solution, one minor concern I identified was that unless only a fine mist was applied the solution could run down the leaves and collect around the edges, which may result in chemical burn in strong sunlight; so I never drenched the leaves until they dripped, but just created some mist that could drift into the leaves.
For the same reason I also gave my bushes a proper rinse after it rained before I reapplied the solution.

Re: finally some blooms
Boy, is this worth the wait! Just magic. All this and lilac too. Ah lilac...I need to move back to Melbourne. Or Tassie . Or the Cotswolds. Or refrigerate my garden.
But back to the roses:That Crepescule is stunning. It looks like it might be blooming almost in sync with Flemington's. Is that one plant or several? How old?

Re: finally some blooms
Thanks Betsy. The lilac is lovely, grown from a slip, flowering doesn't last long. But when its out...ahhhhh. The crepescule is just one plant, goes mad every year so this winter had to prune it hard to contain it a bit. Several years old (about 6 I think). Easy peasy to grow, doesn't get much attention, no thorns. She's a good girl.

Re: finally some blooms
Thanks Paul. Yes I'm pleased with health so far, fingers crossed.
I love my Kardinal too, flowers are beautiful and last so long. This must be the second week for those buds, they open so slowly and don't fade. The colour just glows in the distance and doesn't disappear into the greenery like the darker reds. If only it had the perfume to match!

I'd like to see Margaret Merrill too, very much. I think she and Augusta Luise (sp) are near the top of my list for next year. Wish I had gotten MM this year, now that you all have confirmed the good word about her.

Teesh, AL was nowhere in my rose-scope until you ID'd your divine avatar. I went straight off to HMF. Every photo, every review even better than the next. And it's a Tantau rose, even - Tantau roses and I get along wonderfully well.

Roseman and Betsy, here is Margaret Merril

And the bush. Notice the mass of buds on the left. this has always been the stronger of the 2 bushes
[img][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/img]
And for Rosy some close-ups of Crepescule buds. It was getting dark so I couldn't get any older blooms.

Rosy Crepescule is such a healthy plant, doesn't really climb just gets thicker and bigger each season, lots of growth, pliant young growth, happy to lean along the deck rails. It doesn't shoot new canes from the base, just uses established main branches to shoot from. Always has flowers, several flushes through the season and repeats quickly. Sweet clear perfume. Disease resistant, I never do anything to it, chuck some food on when I'm organised. At Flemington racecourse it is the rose that lines the path that the winning horses come down after their race. That's where I came across it. I've noticed quite a few plants round here, often trained along taller fences, always looks good. Mine is about 3m high and was about the same in width until its recent prune.
Hope that helps!
And Rosy, you have also convinced me about Augusta Louise. Love it, and it's one I want to get now.

Rosy that's Alyssum, self sown. I love self sown things, save me heaps of work and they usually look good where they grow.
