Help - roses burning?

Hi,

We purchased a house last year which has quite a few established roses. However, over the last month I have been having non stop issues with the roses and leaves "burning". At least that's what I think it is. I have never grown roses before so I admit I have no idea what I'm doing - they have survived so far but now I have run out of ideas on how to keep them alive! I now have very few roses on the bushes, and the ones that do come through "burn" within 1-2 days. Help!

I have recently increased the watering (it has been hot for a few days here) and that showed some improvement however they're still dying/burning after a couple of days.

where abouts in WA are you.....also are you on acreage?

Maybe a soil drench with seasol could help. Also the garden may need remulching to hold the moisture in the ground.

Hi Neptune, we are in the eastern hills of Perth. Yes we are on acreage too.

I did remulch on the weekend just past, I will get the seasol out too.

It's such a shame as they are very well established roses and have been going great over the past year> I don't want to ruin the poor things!

Hi Evered, David here on the other side of the county. We at present are getting 38 to 40c temps. As mentioned seasol drench will help. How are you off for water, if you have lots, I would be giving them heaps at night, or at least early morning. The roses need to be strengthened, may I suggest you look into getting some pottasium, liquid if possible. It will build the cell structure of the plant which in turn willl help reduce this problem.
Neptine will be a good guide as he is nearby.

After two days of 44 plus here, my roses look terrible.
I've kept the water up, moved them into the shade and intend to leave them there for a while (another 2 40 plus days forcast) but they all look awful.
I've watered twice a day and given them some seasol...there are conflicting suggestions of removing burnt foliage or leaving it in place, I'm not sure what else to do
