Hi Karen,

Thought you might like to see this hybrid of 'Fortune's Double Yellow' bred by Paul Barden:

'Joycie' is a miniature that has standard sized roses in its background and this hybrid is a monster like FDY. I think it has the most beautiful flowers and it is repeat flowering (remontant). I think if you were going to put some of your ample supply of FDY pollen to good use you could breed some amazingly beautiful repeat flowering hybrids that would probably be massive climbers like FDY but might be a good stepping stone to producing better shrubs as well.

One another note Karen... I was looking at 'Souvenir de MME Leonie Viennot' and see that it is also a hybrid gigantea (though I have a feeling I have misinterpretted the reference on HMF. EDIT: actually.. after a little bit of digging I am sure I have misinterpretted it... but it has been used with gigantea a fair bit top MAKE gigantea hybrids) and it has good looking descendants listed on HMF. I think it too might be very worthwhile to use in much the same way as FDY. The little cuttings you sent me have just started to grow in the last 2 weeks and have shot up 20c in 2 weeks... quite amazing really.

Thanks for posting this for me Simon, I have only just found it tonight. It is a nice colour. I wonder if I get tiny blooms on mine this Summer.
I went to Helpmefind to look at Joycie. It is a nice minature, specially before it fully opens.
Glad to hear your cuttings of Souvenir de Leonie Viennot are growing well. Yes, that is a good idea, I would like to try breeding with this rose. Hey that won't be that long away now. Will go to Lynette's to get the pollen, also I might be able to take some FDY's pollen to fertilise some blooms on it. Will have to do it after the Open days though.
