All this summer

Zephrine Drouhin is, as a few of the bourbons are, quite mildew prone. If I was to get ZD I would either put it where there was lots of air movement around it or I would have to be prepared to spray it or hose it off every morning.

Oh dear. I just had another look at your collection of pics, to help me decide on my roses Dee.

How can I choose, I want them all!

I tried to make a short list, but it keeps getting longer, sigh

How many are you ordering Abbi ??

Well, I've picked 6 climbers for the patio posts:
2 gold Bunnies, 2 Westerlands, 1 Pierre deRonsard and Dee is kindly giving me a Pink Perpetue.

We think I can fit about 8 - 10 small to medium floribundas in the beds beside the posts. Then there is another prepared bed in front of a big window that I'm going to fill with ground covers and low growing floribundas (up to 50cm) Later I will have places for taller ones in a bed we haven't built yet.

For these beds I'm thinking about Parkinsons Passion, Jane Mcgrath, Merry maker, Ebb Tide, Love Potion, Make a Wish, Christopher Marlowe, and Jubilee celebration. Dee has a Mayflower and a leonardo da Vinci for me.

For the low bed under the window dee has some white grouncovers and I was going to order Ruby Celebration, Red Pixie, Victoriana and Victoria Gold.

Later when I have more room for taller ones Dee has a Sally holmes and a Jubilee 150 for me, and I might order Molineux, Cabana, Bold seduction and perhaps a few more. I'm getting quite exited about this.

First we have to build a wallaby proof fence, but thats in the pipeline.

We also have 38 deciduous trees (up to 10ft tall) waiting to be planted. Thats a lot of BIG holes to dig!

On the southern, shady side we have a few tree ferns in already and plan a lot more with other ferns and mosses around them and fuschias...like a rainforest with fuschias for a splash of colour. We're currently carting bought topsoil to this area to build up the beds. Its more or less just builders rubble under them.

We also plan to put in a lot of fruit trees, peaches,plums, apples etc. They will go where there is deeper topsoil already, next to the existing Cherry and Berry orchard.

So, lots of plans.....but it won't happen overnight!

Ohh! Sigh! (dreamy look) I can see it already.

Billndee, I have so enjoyed looking at your rose photos tonight. You certainly take great rose shots and grow very beautiful roses. Thankyou for showing them to us Its great to see garden shots of a roses.

You always leave a bit of your heart in each garden, don't you think?

Maybe in spring I might wonder about the bulbs and iris, but I brought literally thousands with me, so they will be here too.

I did especially love the spring flowering prunus, such big trees. I will have to wait years to have any that big, but I can enjoy looking at them in other people's gardens, because the climate is the same here....and after all they only flower for a week or so, it's just a message really, to alert us that spring has sprung!

I am getting very excited about this new project though, and certainly enjoying the relaxed Tassie lifestyle.

It was always too cold to grow roses successfully where I was, so i am looking forward to having a go at that.

What is the gorgeous rose in your avatar, thee....is it fire and ice? It needs to be added to my wishlist

Dee, fabulous photo's! Loved touring through your roses and now I have a wish list of 38 roses for whenever I go near nurseries. Thanks for the opportunity to see them on the bushes like that.

Oh dear!! What have I done?!
Seriously though I feel a rose bush is more that just the flower, the bush has to look good and perform well for me to be really pleased with it. So I hope the photos of the bushes are a help to you as well Betty.

Dee, I was addicted before I saw your photo's but I am pleased to see better photo's of roses than you get in the catalogues. Roses that I may have not thought twice about can look stunning if the bush is in full bloom. Can you tell me if Bredon is a DA? Just looks like one. Heavens , if you asked me what is my pick of those 38 I honestly couldn't tell you, maybe it would boil down to which bush looks best, or which has the nicest perfume. I wondered why people always asked about the perfume but now I know. I have St Patrick, and although a lovely rose, it has no perfume I can detect. So, then I start thinking that in its place could be a rose just as lovely, with a wonderful perfume. Oh well, live and learn.

I am quite fond of Bredon. Yes, as Roseman has said, it is a DA. I believe David Austin has deleted it from his catalogue, I suppose because he has to move on. But that does not stop nurseries from selling it I think.
I have it on a standard. It flowers all over the bush and repeats well. And it is healthy. I love the shape of the flower too, it is very pretty, a lovely soft cream. It goes very well next to deep red roses.
I must remember to bud some more onto next season's rootstocks that I have coming on. That is legal as long as I keep them for myself.

Correct Dee. at present till I get some definite answer from Canberra which I am chasing.
