Get yourself a coffee before you click this link to see heaps of rose photos I took in my garden this season. This is the best of them.
If you think any of them are mis-named I would like you to tell me please. :

Re: All this summer
Oh that was mouth-watering Dee!! What fabulous roses you have, and so healthy, couldn't see a spot of blackspot!!
2 of them have started a new wish list for me, Command Performance and Pristine.
Lovely. Thanks for sharing

Dee, had to pause and get my second cup. Tremendous, how many roses do have all up and your land area they are on, if you do not mind.

Re: All this summer
Orchid, do you think I was going to photograph the black spot? There is plenty don't you worry! Pristine for one gets it. I am planning to cull a lot of HTs this winter because they get so much black spot, but Pristine will not be one of them because I love the flower so much.
Command Performance is reputed to suffer mildew badly but I find it to be no worse than the others. It is the darkest red I have ever seen.
Tas, I love the DA Grace. It is a spreading type with long sprays. Healthy enough and a lovely flower. It is now in its third position where I hope it will grow up against a pier under the deck and spread to its hearts content. I had to move it because it was in the way of house extensions and then too close to Altissimo so did not thrive.
Roseman, I have somewhere around 220 rose bushes. I am obsessed by them. It is hard to work out how much land it occupies, the front garden is suburban size, the back garden is bigger than that and there is a side garden that is fairly wide. I have the roses crammed together in random shaped beds that take up much of the space. The lawn has been reduced to winding pathways between the beds. I tried to measure it once but the fences are so irregular that I gave up trying to map it! If I had to give a figure I would guess between 1/4 and1/2 acre.

I'll save you some time checking, Carole
Dee and Abbi go way back, and Dee knows that Abbi has now moved to a blank canvas in Tassie...........better than that, Dee is busily propagating beautiful roses for Abbi to plant.

Re: All this summer
Now I HAVE to come up with the goods, don't I! Otherwise there will be lots of egg on my face!
Don't worry Abbi, I have got The Mayflower, Leonardo da Vinci for a start. I don't want you to inherit my black spotty, daggy varieties for your low growing beds. Are there any smallish Teas out there that we could put with them ? Suggestions please!
Then we have to think of some good quality pillar roses to train up your patio posts. I wonder if you like Sparrieshoop and Pink Perpetue?
By good quality I mean no black spot, lots of flowers all summer, and perfume.

Re: All this summer
Well done, Carole.
Actually, I don't expect Dee to do all the growing for me, but her advice is absolutely priceless
Dee, we already talked about the pillars. In your garden I liked Gold Bunny, Pierre de Ronsard and Westerland. Will they be good for flowers, disease resistance and perfume? You must show me Sparrieshoop and Pink Perpetue. I'll check your gallery right now to see if they're there.
BTW....you don't have to grow those for me, just steer me in the right direction to buy them. As I said, your advice is incredibly valuable to me.

Just checked your pics Dee.
Sparrieshoop and Perpetue are both lovely.....but then, they all are, aren't they. Could this be my new obsession?

Re: All this summer
Hi Abbi,
Pierre de Ronsard is a lovely healthy climber. I don't know how good it would be as a pillar though. Mine has strong thick straight stems that don't like being bent. My one is growing on a fan-shaped trellis. I guess if you were diligent enough you could wrap them as they grow in smaller steps, however, I'd be inclined to look for something with thinner more pliable stems. Are you after something repeat flowering? I have a couple of own-root plants of 'Violette', 'Félicité et Perpétue', and 'Phyllis Bide' coming on, all of which would look lovely as a pillar. 'Violette' and 'Félicité et Perpétue' are only once flowering. 'Phyllis Bide' flowers all year. You are welcome to a plant of each later if I can manage to get them a bit bigger and stronger If you've got somewhere for a bigger climber I think my 'Lamarque' cuttings have taken as well and you are welcome to one of these should they take off.

Re: All this summer
Wow, Thanks, Simon.
The blank canvas is about as blank as it can be right now, but we've started landscaping, building up topsoil on top of rocky bits, etc, and we hope to make a nice garden one day.
Fencing out the wallabies and potaroos and deterring possums will be the first job.
I can't wait to start planting things.

Re: All this summer
Hi Dee, My most humble apologies for giving you so much work to do I hope you are still talking to me after this I know (I should have stayed in my closet) But look on the bright side you will be able to take some of the credit for Abbi's garden when it is finished. NOW don't you feel better.

Re: All this summer
Yeh Carole, it is all good fun!
Abbi, I forgot we talked about about Westerland, Gold Bunny and Pierre de Ronsard. Keep an eye on me.
I think we can work on controlling Pierre. I have seen a photo of it wound around a pillar. Worth a try.
I am so much looking forward to seeing your garden come into life Abbi. It is exciting.

Re: All this summer
Abbi, not knowing where your pillars are , if you don't want thorns 'Zephrine Drouhin' would be a good one. It is on top of my list of must haves. For a spectacular rose I would go for clg 'Crown Princess Margareta' this rose I have and cannot fault it (If you like David Austin roses, which I do) I would think that any roses that you select would flower fantasticly where you are.
