Re: Wish Lists
? I thought it a valid response. The major nurseries all do trials. Probably won't be so quick to rush things (eg. EBB TIDE ...) out until Australian performance is evaluated.

Re: Wish Lists
I want Honore de Brabant and Lamarque. Don't know how the Frenchies grow down in old Melbourne town though. I will have to pick Jean's brains on the weekend

Re: Wish Lists
Lamarque, will be spectacular IMO. What takes your interest with Honorine de Brabant ?
Jean will be fantastic, take notes, even a tape recorder, scribble on a catalogue. If you get a chance maybe some photos please.

Re: Wish Lists
I have Honorine de Brabant but she hasn't done as well as some of my other Bourbons here ... Lovely pale pink flowers with darker, almost violet striping - would be a worthy addition to any garden.
To add to my wish list, I agree 'muscovyduckling', Lamarque would be gorgeous. Maybe a brick wall for her climb over down there in Melbourne might help her acclimatise.

Re: Wish Lists
Oh Lordy, I can see how this starts as " I'd like some roses in my garden" and quickly escalates to "I need to build an 40metre brick wall!". Haha.
Roseman, I don't know why I like those stiped Bourbons, they're kind of gaudy and crass! But I think she would look pretty grown together with Felicia or Cornelia or similar along a wall.

Re: Wish Lists
And there's a pretty little pink rose called Jeanne la Joie that has mini flowers that I would like to grow together with a larger flowing variety - has anyone seen Jeanne la Joie in Australia?

Re: Wish Lists
Yes, muscovyduckling, it can be never ending - in the process of having arches built to accommodate my latest craving to have an avenue of climbers!!
I'm not sure I'd consider Honorine de Brabant gaudy! Quite tame I thought!!
Haven't come across Jeanne la Joie - is it a polyantha? Not that I need more roses to add to my 'wish list'.

Re: Wish Lists
Roseman, HMF says it's a miniature climber bred in the US in 1975. I don't know any more details than that!

Re: SUSAN IRVINE BOOKS - I managed to get hold of Susan Irvine's book, The Garden at Forest Hall from, http://www.holisticpage.com.au/ , they have some fabulous books from time to time. So do keep your eye out there as I did pick up some good Old Books like Edna Walling, Gertrude Jekyll & Graham Stuart Thomas.
