Lucky you....
There was nice old lady next door when we purchased our place and she used to feed lorikeets (literally hundreds of them and I am not exaggerating)
. When I was building our house I was up on top of the wall frames nailing down the rafters or something and made the mistake of doing it at feed time. All I heard was the screaming of the parrots and saw lots of green flying past me and nearly knocking me down.
Until I did the wall cladding, the parrots used to fly straight through the wall frames on their daily rush to get fed at 4PM

Re: Slightly OT.....
Good old Biggles. I remember in primary reading just about everyone one of the books written with him being the hero.
But these parrots were more like "Maverick" from Topgun.

Capt W E Johns. I had to look this up because my brain cannot remember back 50 years for that sort of info and while I thought that I had read all of the books clearly I had not. There were 98 of them!
Actually I cannot remember too much about the books. Maybe I read them too fast as at the time we did have a bit of a competition about how many books we could read. I do remember the cover of Biggles in Australia. It had a sea plane being attacked by a giant squid.

Yep, that would be me, Gary. I have no idea what Biggles is - but if there were books involving sea planes and giant squid I really feel as though I missed out! I would have loved that when I was a kid.

Re: Slightly OT.....
Oh. My. God. I would have LOVED those books when I was a kid!!! Freakin' awesome!
For myself - and those of us of a more modern vintage (ahem) - I have fond memories of another protagonist who seems rather 'Biggles-ish'. He was called Cairo Jim, an archaeologist living in the Egyptian 'Valley of the Hairdressers', with his trusty friend Jocelyn Osgood (flight attendant on Valkyrian Airways), Doris the talking maccaw, and Brenda the Wonder Camel.

Looking back, I wonder if these books are the thing that fostered in me the desire to become a pilot, just like Jocelyn. Isn't it funny the things you piece together about your childhood, when you're older?

Re: Slightly OT.....
I am not sure if Biggles was a radio serial however I do remember in the fifties listening to Tarzan, Hop Harrigan, Superman as well as Dad and Dave. Each episode went for fifteen minutes around about what we called tea time starting at 5 p.m. with Tarzan.

I don't remember this one, being of the same era as Gary, but it sure is good. In the UK, we had comics with Biggles in.
