hi everyone my name is troy and im new to rose talk I need help with purchasing the right plants for my garden . I want to plant something with orange flowers as a memorial to my 3 year old daughter kate who passed away from cancer last September . orange was her favourite colour but finding it hard to find the right plant . at the moment roses are my most likely option but I don't want anything tall, to around 1 metre would be perfect I live in western Sydney my area gets winter frosts and is exposed to the full hot sun also I have no experience with roses are their any breeds that are not deciduous. cheers troy

Welcome Troyser to Rosetalk, I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay.
Now for orange roses that only grow to around a metre, for me 2 come to mind straight away,,

A floribunda that fits your description would be Elizabeth of Glamis a rose bred by NZ legendary hybridiser Sam McGredy.

Hi Troyser, welcome to RoseTalk. I was sorry to hear about your daughter.

Wondering if perhaps a miniature rose might work for you, as it's a memorial for your little one? The thing about miniatures is they grow well in pots, so you would be able to take it with you if you ever move.

I don't know a whole lot about orange roses, or growing roses in sunny Sydney, but there's a lovely orange mini rose called 'Orange Honey' which has a light fruity fragrance, and would grow up to about 60cm - including the pot that would take the rose to about a metre high. Treloar's also carry two other orange mini's, one called 'Little Sunset' which is orange and yellow, and a very bright orange one called 'Holy Toledo'.

If you think a mini might suit I'm sure Bruce could tell you more, he's into the minis.

Welcome Troyser.  So sorry to hear about your little daughter.  Muscovyduckling has a point about miniature roses.  There are 2 which are rather lovely - "Little Sunset" and "Ellie".  Also, another beauty, a Floribunda is "Tequila Sunrise".  I do hope your roses bring you some peace.
Kind Regards. Sue
