Probably about 1.3x 1.3 but i kept trimming it so it didn't take over and it was fine ...

Hmmm that sounds much smaller than I envisaged. Did it spread through suckers? How did you contain them? See you've got me thinking....Lol

Re: DO RUGOSA ROSES COPE IN A HOT CLIMATE?
It would have been much bigger but i kept pruning bits off , come to think of it , i had two rugosa's the other was Frau Dagmar , funny thing was , when i had two they had lovely hips and then i pulled one out and the other didn't have any hips the next year. As i understand it , some of them can sucker , but not if they are grafted , mine didn't sucker , thank heavens , it was enough work turning it from roses and perennials to a native garden ...
They are very, very thorny though , gotta have gloves ....

Oh that's right, the thorns! I'd somehow forgotten that. Thanks for the reminder.

'This is the story from HMF on your 4 roses rosebud'
Thanks roseman for the links to HMF ... the information is v. useful - the photos are scrumptious!
Yes, I suppose my concern relates to the humidity and wet feet, Balinbear - but then I expect all my other roses to cope with this ... so why not the apparently indestructible Rugosas?!!
Jordan71, your pictures are truly inspiring. I'm trying to resist Vanguard!!
