Just to clear up in my mind the decision over mauve roses , i emailed Finbaar and asked him about Neptune , he said high petal count HT's , take until their second spring to be their best and from then on all is good .  What have i learnt after all this , if you  grow hybrid teas they need three years , previously after 1-2 years if they didn't perform i got sick of them and out they came , think for sure now i will invest in Neptune ....      Oh and he said most people don't fertilise enough , which has a bearing on flower production , another thing i don't do ,  good on you Finbaar .....

maree, is their any chance of re-emailing Finbaar and asking him about the fertilizing that he mentioned.....such as, what sort of chemical and organic fertilizer he uses........how often.....does he use spray fertilizer and if so what sort...how often.....

I would start a new thread for Finbaar, but he hasn't been on since the 9th sept....

To clarify: I'm not picking on maree, whom I absolutely adore, about spelling. I have misspelled Finbarr as Finnbar so many times that it's almost beyond appalling and moving toward legally actionable. Just wanted to make things right as a courtesy to this most valued and courteous gentleman.

ok Maree, we tend to recommend a dram of fert after each deadheading. that, in addtion to a layer of cow manure and some lucerne topped up as well. minimum would be 4 times epr year. any fert will do, Dave Cooper swears buy Munns Betta Bloom. the cow and lucerne act as mulch and organic conditioning, the fert boosts the new growth that the plant desires as much as water and a sunny day and sets blooms atop the new stems
