Re: Your favourite red roses ???
Reds, don't get me started...
I saw Summer fragrance at the rose nursery and was interested to see if it was any good.
I bought Fragrant Charm however, nice looking rose and as I wanted one to go into a pot and lot of the reds I did like there grow pretty big so gave them a miss. Too many tempting by far though..
The owner there comment that a lot of people are going for the classics rather then the newbies.
My favorite at the moment is Red Intuition.

Re: Your favourite red roses ???
What do they say at the Blood Bank?
"When the red runs out,
The party's over."
My two top-of-the-top reds: Firefighter and Camp David. Personally I count my Fragrant Cloud as a red, but the rules say otherwise.

Looking forward to seeing flowers on my Mr Lincoln and also Francis Dubreill (spelling?). I love the glowing colour of my Kardinal and how long the flowers last. Like you Betsy, i could include Fragrant Cloud here, its coral red colour makes it probably one of my absolute favourites.

My favourite and has been for a long time, is Papa Meilland. This last winter, I bought Father's Love. Will be very interested to see how it performs. Mr Lincoln is also on my list.

Re: Your favourite red roses ???
Well I suppose the classics are tried and true, it's a case of stick with what you know..at one particular place I go to it's $35 for a new release, and when you don't know much about it, it does make you wonder if it is worth getting considering money is hard to come by these days, so I must choose wisely. Temptation vs wallet.roseman wrote:The owner there comment that a lot of people are going for the classics rather then the newbies. Speaking of classic i saw Kentucky derby at a park, quite a lovely rose.

You can see why City of Newcastle under the name Veteran's Honour is the top rose in the USA

Re: Your favourite red roses ???
I have had four for a number of years in pots and I must say they have been disappointing however I don't think its the rose but rather the grower. The pots I have them in are very big and I've seen my mate Jim grow roses in the same size pots and they have been sensational so I don't think it's the size of the pot. All the elements such as fertilizing, watering and spraying have been carried to the letter of the law and the ph is around 6.5 so that isn't a problem. I've come to the conclusion it's the potting mix as it is garden soil and although the roses loved it originally I would say because of compaction they are not enjoying it at all these days. Another friend Ian has a City of Newcastle about 3m tall with tens of blooms. So the only dope seems to be me.

Re: Your favourite red roses ???
Ausrose you sure aren't a dope, did you get them all at the same time, maybe a bad batch of plants I don't know. How big are your pots? I think I may be heading for the same trouble eventually with a couple in spite of getting large pots, I wonder if they are big enough.
