Social Climber rose

Does anyone have Social Climber rose ? I was thinking Nahema , but then i saw Social Climber in the Swanes catalouge , looks good , what do you think ?

Looks nice maree. What will it climb on? Doesn't grow that big does it?

I have a madeup reo arch in the front garden , at the moment it has climbing natives on it , its a metre wide by about four metres long , i'm a bit over one of the natives , so thought a climbing rose with a clematis would be good ..

No worries Silky , its tricky though , cause all the climbers that are longer are too wide , i'll keep looking though ....

Good luck in your search Maree. Just out of curiosity, what native climber was there? Have you had any natives drop dead recently? I've some some grevillea and correa, that were youngish and going great guns, just keel over. Never mind more room for roses.

My natives have been okay Silky , i have been watering them though in the hot weather, the one i pulled out was the Hardenbergia ( Happy Wanderer) very tough plant and the other i have is a native climbing pea , they definately don't like anything but native fertilizer , put some rose food near them and they will probably die . I found Sombreuil and Reine de Violette as maybes today , they look good ...

Maree, I don't use any fertiliser on my natives, I know they are very sensitive to manures, rose food etc. They grew in very deep eucalytus litter which they seemed to like and looked so healthy. They put on so much growth over 2 years and then bang! Dead! Think it might have been the extremely wet months we had prior to summer. Oh well, that is now going to be my DA bed. Just have to clear litter away and dig.

Silky , i have read that natives will just keel over , its always good when something dies i think , cause then you can plant something different , like DA's , which ones you got picked out , funny thing is , i had a DA bed , but pulled em out and put in natives , lol , how funny is that , they just about drove me nuts , except for Jubilee Celebration , love that rose , and i don't have one at the moment , gotta find a spot ....

How strange that our situations are reversed, natives and DA's. Weird huh?
Maree this bed will include Pierre de Ronsard climbing a small dead tree down one end (in the shape of half an arch) so I want to continue the old fashioned pinky look. I want Abraham Darby, Princess Alexandra of Kent, Young Lycidas, and maybe Francis Dubrueil for a bit of a pop in colour. Down the other end is a large clump of agapanthus, which I'll keep as I want the blue. I might be able to manage Summer Song against it. I'll have to create a barrier for agapanthus though, greedy bugger.

Strange yes Silky lol !! They sound like really good choices you have there , and the colour scheme is very picturesque , happy digging !!!

Haha, hope the back holds out. When its all planted and thriving in full bloom, I'll post some pics. Hope it will bear some resemblance to the vision in my head. We can but dream eh?

Dream yes , i always wanted to paint , but can't , so gardening is a way of making one big painting ,and i love doing it , but you make so many bo , boos along the way .... Looking forward to the photos .......

Haha, might take awhile Maree. I used to paint and must say it was easier physically and didn't take as long to create a picture. But there's nothing like walking through your garden, birds out and about, sun warm on your back, the sights, fragrances and textures surround you. Lifts the spirit every time.
