actually falstaff is very good for me , guess its more suitable as a climber , i might trail it against my fence and see how it goes

neptune has repeated several times for me , so yes i do love it and the scent is great also, its one to have maree , you will like the colour and the perfume

Thanks Jordan , thats a great help , trying to decide between Neptune and Charles de Gaulle , Charles , i know is a slow repeat performer , and Neptune gets mixed reviews , which one grows the best for you ? Charles or Neptune thanks

Maree I have Charles de G and I must say it's a bit of a disappointment so far. Only planted last winter, very slow growth, a few flowers so far, washed out mauve, some fragrance but nothing outstanding, soft petals in the way of Blue Moon. Maybe it will come good, but if it was me, I think I'd choose Neptune. Haven't ever grown it Neptune though. In the same colour range, I'm impressed with Barbara Striesand, beautiful flowers, more intense colour than Charles with added definition of reddish tinge, knockout perfume. Healthy so far after a shaky start with possums and a touch of BS which she shook off. I'm happy I took a risk with her.

well i must say charles initialy very slow , but it is doing very well , its not a great repeater , but had few blooms so far .it is a beatiful rose as in colour and perfume so its one for me to keep , if i had to choose between the two it would be neptune .

Mmmmn , yes i think so too , probably Charles good to put somewhere , where it doesn't matter if it slow , and just enjoy the blooms when they come ...

Gotta say: My pair of CdGs produced enough blooms in the summer of 2007 to generously keep two vases filled for four months. Never quit. They were in 18" pots, sun from 9:30=2, lots of salt air./ They had been with me for two seasons from Magic Gardens, so plants themselves would have been about 5 1/2 years old.. The bushes never got very big, maybe 60cm high? but you couldn't faulkt them for regular production

Maybe mine just needs more time to mature. Betsy do you still have your CdG bloom machine?

There were two of 'em , silky, and while I can't say that one was more productive than the other, between the two of them they did the job. The house was never without a vase of these things all summer.

Where are they now, those roses of yesteryear? Or as tbe philosopher-poets would sigh: Ou sont les roses d'antan?

They're gone, out the door, on their bikes and given away. I could not look at grey flowers another season. Perfume was very good, though. Just that colour. You thin you have probs mixing and nmatching Fragrant Crowd?, Boy, Charlie just dragged down every other bloom down with his corpse grey..

Corpse grey? LalalalalaIalalalalala....... have my fingers in my ears and my eyes averted, trying NOT to have that image implanted into my visual memory bank. I will NOT dredge it up when next I look upon Charles' blooms. Just have to think of a sophisticated catchy description that will fit. Come on Betsy, help me out here. Make like an advertising copywriter (have you got a ponytail?) and weave your linguistic magic for me.
After all, I have to live with Charles for the next few years and don't want to see dead people lurking in the garden.

Husband , just walked past and said what are you laughing at , don't think he would believe me if i told him lol !! Silky , just when i thought i had " the list " all sorted , i'm back to square one , and still looking around the garden for more spaces , like they are just magically going to appear , three certainties though , Fragrant Cloud , Olde Fragrance , Camp David , the rest i just can't decide on AGGGHHH !!! , order them , then put em in pots till i can , the life of a rose tragic lol !!!

Same here Maree. Too many wishlist roses to fit into available spaces. I can't see myself having many in pots. I've only got a few awaiting going into the ground and already I'm sick of moving them into the shade on really hot days. I couldn't do it if they were in really large pots.
I want to get Queen Adelaide, Firefighter, Oklahoma, Parole, Olde Fragrance, Pricess Alexandra of Kent, Abraham Darby, Young Lycidas,
and several more Munstead Wood (love it)
Maybe: Francis Dubrueil, Gemini, LD Braithwaite, Prospero, Camp David, Silver Jubilee, Monsieur Tillier, Daybreaker, Children's Rose, Ambridge Rose, Scentimental, Compte de chambourd, Eyes for You.

Wish my back could hold out for some serious digging or I could afford a "garden man". Trouble is I'm fussy so it would be a waste. Sort of like cleaning the house before the cleaning lady comes so she doesn't think you're a slob.

No , i've never been a pot person either , bung them in the ground , some i'm just not sure what they'll be like though , Deane Ross for one , looks good in the catalogue , but is it ? Amazing Grace another , why do you shift the pots though ? don't quite understand that one . You've got some great roses there , good luck !!!
