MAGIC GARDEN ROSES. One of the best companies to buy roses from. If they have the rose you want then buy it there. Very nice people to do business with and very healthy plants. All the roses I purchased there are true to label.

Unfortunatly some of the biggies in rose growing have drought effected plants , some virus problems and roses not true to label.

There are also some very successiful gardeners offering plants for sale that are usually very good. They are not concentrating on profit but pride to produce the very best.

Tasv, from what state can you receive roses from.

Any state so long as they have the necessary certification. I need to ask the various places before ordering to see if they have the necessary certificates and then each order needs to be accompanied by a plant health certificate.

Simon, what about between person to person, from Aus to Tas.

Not strictly allowed. Again if the person goes through the quarantine facility in their state then it can be sent. It needs to be treated with methyl bromide to ensure some kind of thrip doesn't hitch a ride. Apparently it's doable but most people wouldn't want to make the effort and I am not sure how much it costs and I don't know what effect the methyl bromide would have on small tissue bits like buds (if sending budwood) or small cuttings. Whole plants seem to cope ok.

It knocks them back. We have bought cherry trees treated with Methyl Bromide. They look like they have had a hard time. The buds are shriveled and dull looking. The plant recovers though but they slow down for a while.

so no good for buying budwood then I would have thought that for a place a huge as Ruston's Roses they would have had certificates to send budwood to Tas if they have them to send to WA

Hi Roseman, what are you doing on this forum, thought it was only for badies like me. After four posts Tasv nearly terminated my membership.
My crap meter was making funny noises and the needle was well into the red. Fortunatly I am now a reformed character but don't spend a lot of time on any forum.

Tasv, to bad , no plants or budwood into Tassie from Ruston's. They have a cut flower business, plants to propagate, budwood to sell, tourist buses, special events like weddings and a vintage car interest. Why would they bother to make business difficult by sending to states that have all those quarrentine hurdles to jump over. Business is difficult enough looking after the larger more profitable customers without selling in some of the less profitable areas. I have their catalogue and what a great line up of minatures. This may work in your favour building a nursery business as your customers won't be able to source plants outside Tassie.

Hmmm... fair call too. But... as always, there are ways around things I have a plan LOL

The pipe dream is a nursery... would be great if it happened but is still a long way off. I have much to learn yet.

Tasv, I didn't think for one moment a poultry breeding, ferret loving rose breeder like you would be put off by a small problem like that.

Keep us informed of your nursery building progress, I like to see success and would follow your progress with great interest.

Mushroom, consider your self a baddie , why would this be so, I go to where I can learn or give my opinion or even limited knowledge that I may have.

For the record, I have never nearly terminated Bruce's membership I haven't terminated anyones membership... ever... Not quite sure why you think you're a bad boy Bruce In fact I think I'm the Mushroom here LOL in the dark and all... oh well... never mind...

My plan for Ruston's is buy the budwood and have it sent to a friend who has the necessary clearance. She can bud them and grow them and then later I'll buy mature plants off her. Nice and legal all round then.

Just a little news, our Cecile Brunner Clg had a big flush last October November and has had continuous blooms right up until now. I was telling Deb Kelly about it's out of character behaviour and she recons it is quite unusual.
It's been there since 1980 and has given us a lot of pleasure. Made about twelve own root plants from it and they were snapped up quickly. Would do some more if anyone shows interest.

Bruce, I thought Cecile Brunner flowered threw out the season, we have one and it does. The other comment would make is the old subject is it Cecile Brunner or Bloomfield Abundance ???????
