Post by maree 18th January 2014, 21:52

Came home from work the other day and noticed Henri Matisse was looking limp , broken and dead looking , oh no !! i thought ,he has succumbed to the dreaded heatwave , but i've been faithfully watering the roses , even the anti garden husband has been helping , but upon further inspection i noticed Henri wasn't dead he was broken , the canes were all broken off and a sliver watch lay amongst the wreckage, okay i thought , what has husband done now , fallen into  the rose bush i bet , found him lying on the bed , did you fall into the rose bush i say and is this your watch . Yes he says , tripped over the hose while i was watering the prized lawn and yes it was before he had ,had a beer he assures me and then shows me his wounds ,  two huge scratches on his chest covered in betadine and lots of other small scratches too .    Henri definately won this one ........

Sorry Maree, I just had to laugh at the picture you painted. Poor husband, scratches, dented ego, and I bet with that woebegone expression that all husbands exhibit at one time or another (think man flu) that either melts your heart or reduces you to giggles, sometimes both at the same time. Lol
Poor Henri too. Not only coping with the heat of a furnace for a week, but then the indignity of having a bloke flatten you as well!

it must have been a tornado of a fall if it stripped his watch off his wrist! Poor bloke... just goes to show though that working on lawn maintenance is to be avoided..at all costs...

Lol everyone i have to laugh at this too , cause he didn't tell me , its only when i found his watch that he owned up , apparently he took it off to wash away the blood and then forgot it , but but it did make for a good story down at the local cricket club with his mates lol ha ha . Silky poor Henri is gone , got husband to dig him up this morning , poor Henri had copped a battering ....

I wonder if chopping and hacking and digging poor Henri gave your husband a twinge of satisfaction, after his own wounds. Did you hear muttering coming from the garden Maree?  Chainsaw guy

No Silky , no muttering just " how much dirt do you want dug out and where do you want to put it " i sent him off to the doctors though for  tetanus injection cause he tangled with a metal stake as well , mmmnn just as well he's a tough truckie lol .  Hariet Henri has bit the dust , gone to rose heaven , he's one of my favourites but good chance to put in a different rose now ....

This will be a test of your patience Maree. Wait and work on new soil ready for bare root planting or bite the bullet and get a potted one now? What have you got in mind?

I'll wait for a bare root one Silky , Fionas Wish i think , my new Jubilee Celebration isn't doing very well either , think its a dud , Silkie roses have said they will replace it , so will have to dig that one out too .   Did you get your Baron de Rothschild refunded or replaced ?

Sorry to hear your Jubilee Celebration isn't doing well Maree. I love mine but it is quite a weak little bush although the flowers are gorgeous. I think it will just need time to develop and bulk up. Magic Gardens were happy to replace my Baron but of course they had sold out, so I'll have to wait until bare root order unless I come across it somewhere else in the meantime. Another reason why I wanted to visit Greenvale Roses because its on their list.

At Adelaide Bot Garden last year I was very taken with Fionas Wish.. I am thinking of getting one as well.. but would need to find the right spot as they are quite a crowd stealer, i wonder how vigorous they are in the home garden?

Silky my Jubilee Celebration seems to have a lot of die back , doubt if it will survive , maybe , but the flowers are divine .     Hariet my mum has Fionas Wish and its a good fragrant healthy rose , but yes probably needs a bit of room , although its not gigantic ...
