One of my new moss roses has just started fowering for the first time:

Not only does it have nicely scented flowers but the moss, which isn't prickly at all, is also nicely scented. Great old healthy rose

Re: Henri Martin
Me too TheE. I find that the longer I am into roses the more I am leaning towards the old garden roses.
'Henri Martin' is an oldie... it was released in France in 1862 and I first saw it at Woolmers Estate in Tas where it is planted as a low (1m ish) hedge along the front of the old garden rose section. The moss is soft to touch and contains small glands that release an oil with the scent of cloves and you can run your hand through the foliage without any real risk of catching on the thorns to release the scent of the oil all over you. The flowers are also very fragrant and a lovely mid-purple. One thing I love about 'Henri Martin', apart from it being quite a healthy plant, is that although it is not repeat flowering the flowers appear over a long period of time so it almost seems as though it IS repeat flowering. You can buy 'Henri Martin' from Misty Downs Nursery along with a good selection of other old garden roses.

Re: Henri Martin
That's beautiful, it sounds like a very special rose. Love the colour and the thought of the perfumed foliage.
