Rain, the real fertiliser
Roseman/David said this ages ago, and I believed him. We've just had over 150mm. His observation is now my mantra. The stuff that's heaven sent really causes roses to go ballistic. Okay. some balled blooms, but mostly gorgeous bursting forth of green and buds. No tap water ever yields this rich, unfolding glory.

the secret is deep watering......hence why a good rainfall will penetrate further into the soil

Re: Rain, the real fertiliser
Sorry, I disagree. I deep water my roses as a matter of course. But the rain, slow and steady and unrelenting, and pure, yields results far in excess of any other .

All that rain Betsy =happy roses =happy gardener. You've also got the warmth to give them an extra oomph. We had several days of soaking drizzly rain but it was darned cold. I think the roses here are just enjoying seeing some sunshine again.
Just saw weather warnings for the Hunter Valley. I hope you're OK and avoid any damage. That goes for the roses too!

Yes Betsy , I am a believer of "rain', if someone could;d bottle it in it's entirety, they would make millions, it has something with the water passing down and collecting, oxygen and all the elements. If I know we are getting some rain I fertilise most things.

Yep, all the micro-nutrients that fall with the rain!! Lovely and no amount of deep watering can replicate it. We have had approx. 40 ml in the last 3 days. We missed out on large hail unlike others further south on the Qld Sth Coast. Hope there's more rain on the way without the hail this time.
