Growing roses in pots
Alee, I will not reinvent the weel to this topic, so I post you first a good source of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] were he described the top opportunities of rose growing in pots. Personally I work in the manner which is described on the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.],
you can copy the content and translate it with the google tool, so you will get something to laugh
important points are:
- diameter and height of the pots not under 40 cm
- good drainage under the soil
- Mixing of 10% Perlite under the soil to provide good aeration
- repotting of the rose after 3 to 4 years
the so prepared roses are watered daily in summer.
in the climate of your islands, I would not use black pots because of additionl heating and irritation of the root system.
any other tips are wilcome
regards BeMo

Re: Growing roses in pots
Hi Bemo,
I grow many of my roses in pots. In the growing medium I mix 50/50 coir potting mix with whatever else I'm using. Also compost. The coir doesn't dry out very quickly. I had black pots but found I could paint them with acrylic house paint a lighter colour. They scratch easily but they're cooler. All my pots are 40cm for mature roses. They do need feeding and watering more often than those in the ground.
Will now go and look at the links you put up

Re: Growing roses in pots
Do you really have to re-pot every 3-4 years? Has anyone noticed a difference? Do you have to re-pot to a bigger pot or just replace the potting mix?

Re: Growing roses in pots
you can leave to about 5 yrs if you keep up with the fertilizing regime and if you have a decent size pot then all you are doing is upgrading the soil
