Pattern on leaves

I have noticed these pattern on my Black Magic leaves. Could someone please let me know if its Rose Mosaic Virus. And what should I do about it.

Is it contagious to other plants?

There's nothing on the undersides of the leaves?

According to Dr Malcom Manners the only way RMV can be passed on is by grafting onto infected understocks or grafting infected scions onto clean understocks. Growing closely together where root grafting is possible is also a known transmission path. I still suspect pruning tools though he dosen't support this idea. Growing them in pots like you do means the chances are very small. It has been shown to be transmitted by pollen in non-rose species (prunus species) but has not been documented in roses and is thought not to occur this way...

Thanks for the questions Alee and thanks for the answers Simon, as I was going to be asking the same questions. I saw on my Fairy weeper what looked like Rose Mosaic. I will post a photo of it soon. It is not quite the same as Alee's leaves.
Does this virus hurt the rose eventually.It is very healthy now. I won't grow any other rose near to it

It's hard to generalise about rmv becuase it has so many different looks and can look different in different roses even. It just reduces vigour but even that's hard to generalise about because it affects different roses in different ways.

I hope it doesn't worry my 'The Fairy'. So is this virus only found in Multifora and that other species rose you warned me about ?

Nope... it's pretty much found in everything these days That other one on Rosa multiflora watsoniana is not rose mosaic virus... it's another virus that also causes patterns on the leaf.. or so it is rumoured. I'm not certain about it yet. When mine is large enough I hope to play with it a bit and try budding things onto it to see if they also develop the same marks. I have asked the question of people who should know (plant virologists etc) and there doesn't seem to be a lot of literature on it... so will be interesting to play around with and see what happens.
